Yep.  I was very keen for the MFC to become a McDonald-free zone.

In 2021 he'll be bending us over even when he's kicking the dew.

I'm not one of those supporters who tries to make good of a bad situation.  It's shouse that we kept him.

But I can still laugh at Collingwood.

Tomorrow happens to be McHappy Day (at least, in Victoria). Could that be an omen that Oscar will sign a new contract tomorrow?

We went from 4th in 2018 to 16th in 2019.

I expect us to do well in 2021 but wont be surprised if we crumble.

Even if your fears were well-founded, that's not a good enough reason to hold onto a future first round pick.

I have no problem with the club setting high expectations and accordingly trading away our future first round picks if they think they can be used to cash in for higher present value.

We started last year's trade period with one 2019 first round pick and one 2020 first round pick. Right now we have two 2019 first round picks and two 2020 first round picks. Even if we don't get back into the 2021 first round, that's still a net gain of a first round pick over that time.

Hmmm, don’t know about that. Before this season they were widely tipped to be top 4, fell into the finals, got pantsed by St Kilda in a deplorable game. Picked up Treloar, will he really make the difference? Dunkley does not want to be there, from what I understand due to serious culture issues. Don’t think they are that good.

I think Stefan Martin is their more important acquisition.

Allows them to be competitive in the ruck and use English either forward or back, where he'll have more impact.

Treloar alone doesn't really help them as they already had a strong midfield. They're just going to be squeezing more midfield minutes out of Dunkley and Bontempelli to fit him in (although I guess in the case of Bontempelli playing him more forward won't hurt!).

But if they can play English as a sweeper defender or a third tall forward, they might improve their real weaknesses.

I am not surprised that Tmac is still with us but IF he can get back to fitness he will be a better version of Pedo. I am hoping that a rotation of TMAc., Tomlinson. And Weeds could create some problems for the opposition with all playing back. Wing/lead up forward and resting on the bench. Maybe a little ruck relief as well!

If Tom could potentially get himself right for 2021, then he could almost be our best acquisition of the off season.

It’ll keep the pressure on Weideman and hopefully see him really kick on and develop.

Really ? I think Geelong have done really well

They are in the mix for a real tilt at a flag and barring Richmond would most likely have won one this year

They have quality all over the ground and have now topped up with a former leading goal kicker in Cameron, a quality wingman in Smith and a quality midfielder in Higgins. Two of these 3 haven't won a flag and would be desperate to do so before their time is up

Add these to a list that is also very hungry for a flag, and a significant home ground advantage they will be top 4 again next year IMO

Yes they have an aging list, yes they may hit a wall in 3 years time but are they closer to a flag in 2021 or 2022 than us - well I'd say they are

Hopefully I'm wrong and they stink it up and we surprise everyone and start to work as a cohesive team and play consistent footy

I'm not doubting their quality, and their potential to be premiers, but rating their trade period so highly when they paid 3 first rounders for Cameron and have nix left for the draft makes no sense.  The fact we procured a forward with similar, if not better, career stats for essentially pick 36 (once all points are added) doesnt make 3 first rounders look that good anymore.  They' re all in, and it may work, it may not.  I definitely rate our Trade Period above theirs.

Fair enough

Don't forget that whilst they have effectively bailed from this years draft

- it is widely considered weaker than next year
- the kids this year have limited exposed form so makes judgement of picks more difficult and
- they have added two extra second round picks for next year so they can top up on youth then

I too think they have overpaid for Cameron and we have stolen BBB in comparison - they clearly are in a different space to us

I wish we were thinking we were that close to success to be brave - will be interesting to watch it all play out

There’s way too much sunshine and lollipops going on around here about TMac.

He’s being paid like a guy who should be in our top 5 players, and he’s currently not in the best 22. That money is poorly spent. Purely from a business perspective he should be gone, and the fact that he isn’t tells you the rest of the industry agrees he’s massively over valued.

Correct

So we have to do everything to get some work out of him.
Tom has been training hard since the season finished and doesn’t look injured in what i have seen on Instagram

8/10 score.

Getting good value pick 31 for Preuss

Getting Ben Brown for equivalent mid 2nd round

trade pick swaps to get 18 & 19  & kept 28

Witherden - we needed a small skilled defender to go alongside May and Lever

missed the Pies fire sale. Phillips was a good fit and ultimately was available.
lost first round 2021 pick

?kept Tmcd on serious $$ but unsure where he fits in our best team. Probably as an emergency!

SONS don't need Witherden have Lockhart if we play him!

Yes fire sale was a lost opportunity either Phillips or Stepho

First  round 2021 pick lost now but we pick swap like no one else and may be a ;14-18 anyway  !

Would have loved to pickup Witherden - looks like we could have (if he wanted to come to us) for late picks.

But definitely happy with the Mahoney deals esp re Preuss and Brown

So essentially when you cancel out the similar or non-relevant picks that have been traded in or out, we’ve ended up with;

IN: B Brown, Pick 18, Pick 19

OUT: Preuss, Hannan, 2021 first round pick

Sounds pretty damn good to me.

As long as we can get TMac firing again, we wanted Philips, but with TMac still on the list with no interest, we were unable to trade for him

If not, we will have problems this time next year

Witherden has had 4 out 57 games with 20+ disposals at 90%+ efficiency so I would hardly call that regularly.

Plus he had no interest in playing in Victoria.

End result is:

Out:

- Fringe players Press and Hannah out

- Pick 62, pick 63 out

- Downgrading 23 to 28 and 47 to 50.

For:

- Brown.

- Upgraded all 2021 picks (fingers crossed on 2nd round)

And we traaded out our 2021 first for 2020 pick 18 and 19.

Definite wins across the board. Next year's first for 18 and 19 is the most controversial, but we'll see what happens. We didn't get unders, and if we prefer this then its a win.

Cats got Brown for free, but when Demons were going to get him, I wasn’t overly enthusiastic! Would have much preferred Philips or Polec, both significantly younger and not on the slide! My only disappointment with draft is would have really liked Philips.

BBrown for pick 30ish vs Cameron 3 firsts is a huge get for Demons. I think BB will be worth 10-15% on our percentage that translates to 3 more wins. I also think Weideman will be a better CHF than FF so am really looking forward to seeing our forward line fire in 2020! If one of Pickett, Spargo, Bedford, ANB, Melksham really lift in 2021 and Fritsch kicks straighter we will have a great forward line!

BB - FF

Picket FP

Fritsch HF

Weid CHF

Spargo & Viney FP

Melksham & Petracca HF

Hunt either FP or HF

Jackson a bonus

We have a heap of talent, Ollie could do a little in forward line, TMac, plus more as backups!

Trac, Oliver, Brayshaw 23-24 a year older

Backline solid, Aside from a Lockhart make someone else a lockdown small.

only spot I feel we are soft is wing, Baker?
I look at 2021 & 2022 optimistically, we have huge upside!

Go Dees!

Cats got Smith - he obviously saw a better opportunity to win another flag there than MFC - thats ok lets hope he is wrong
Weid will have to earn his spot - CHF options include Petty and Jackson both are also capable
Melksham has to earn his spot - arguable he did that every week this season
Agree wing is a weakness atm
Agree there is talent and potential - it doesn't guarantee success

This team needs to work cohesively on a consistent basis and they need to be well coached and be able to shift gears when required

IMO a number of teams will improve next year based on recruiting/trading - the challenge doesn't get any easier

It may have been so that the Clarry extension could have been signifivantly front loaded (ie offer overs next year when we need to pay it to someone as part of an extension). Its clear that backended is a danger for everyone.

Yeah I agree.

When you are so old, but still a challenger of course you roll the dice to snare one.

But 3 first round picks could have set them up for another decade. I am not sure that Cameron was worth THAT much to them.

When I heard this excuse trotted out previously in the media I thought it must have been made up. What a pathetic reason to kick off a trade. I would be furious Treloar’s shoes.

Only a rumour - but was brought up on fox footy.  Apparently Treloar wanted to spend 3 days a week in QLD during the season.  Don't know whether that was disinformation/misinformation.

Ben, Brown was the priority and the draft no. 18, 19 and 28 are a bonus Thanks to Josh Mahoney.  He has done well for a number of years now.

When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
