he played six games in 2018 so...no

he had a reasonable year on the back flank in 2017 but saying he was at aa calibre at any stage in his footballing career thus far is utterly laughable

Doesn’t apply enough pressure or win enough of the ball to be a forward, we’ve got options there now.

I thought they’d get him super fit and give him an extended run on the wing but half back is a similar option.

Our depth is certainly lacking after Salem and Rivers it drops away.

Teams have dropped defenses back and played safer with the ball. That nullifies Hunt’s run and carry. But one team in Richmond haven’t and they are the team winning flags. If we park Ben Brown inside 50 then we’ll always have a target for the break the lines and run play. And if Choc Williams can get Hunt’s kicking to a sound and reliable level that is a vital step too.

Wrong it was 2016 he was playing quality half back footy.

Jayden has changed his body shape considerably all ready over preseason, looking very strong in upper body

Can see his pace and dash being used with the new man on the mark rule, he is going to get some clear runs from behind, or will worry the opposition into too much movement and give away 50

Interesting. Our game plan since Goody has come on board has been to move the ball quickly by hand or foot. We traditionally haven't been big on the run and carry which is why I think Hunt was moved from the backline when it was clearly his best position.

I really have doubts if Hunt will be anything more than depth from now on. Same with Melksham.

Hunt played his best football at hb and during that time looked like one of our most promising youngsters, as soon as he had a form slump he was moved to different positions and has not been allowed to settle back at hb for a lengthy amount of games, let play hb for the hole year without moving him, jetta and Hibbo aren't getting any younger so there is a regular spot there for him to take and should take.

He needs to back himself in more and lift his intensity, would like to see him handball more or kick into space or to advantage, instead of just bombing it on blokes heads

Unfortunately after seeming like the next big thing in 2017, Hunt just doesn’t have the consistency to be a regular good quality AFL player. Has all the skills, but can’t bring the concentration and intensity across a season.

so given this his best position is fwd

Wrong, it was 2017

Na. his 2017 year was ok. But no where near as good as his 2016.

I think he has had a good two years. Kicked 20 goals (and some big ones ie v Carlton 2019 to seal it) and he was potent when up forward last year in 2020.

Don't be surprised If Rodman goes past all but Langers for the other wing.

Has a tank skills and today stinga likened him tip The Bont!!!

My post above was before the draft. I agree on Rosmon to the wing but he is a raw footballer who has also missed a year of footy. I'm not expecting too much from him in 2021. I have not said that Fritsch should play exclusively on the wing, but switch between forward and wing (as per the match sim last week). I can rule out Salem on the wing other than brief stints and don't consider Hunt and Baker genuine options (but good luck to them). We might see TMac there a little. I'm not convinced, but he might work for stints too. Nieta is the other possibility in my mind if his knee holds up - I see him as a KK style player, but really, no one's seen him yet.

So, we'll have to disagree on that one.

That's fine you are entitled to your opinion RM.

Yes  disagree on Fritsch on a wing is one but you were very bullish about switching him there in one post Then it was I believe a TMac swap as well I think.

Now  you like me don't  want Tommy on the wing fir any substantial time.!

but you also dont want Baker ( or dont think  he is up to it)

That's  why I believe Rosman Is the guy pushing all the way to Round1.

I think Baker will have a break out year this year similar to Hunt did in 2016.

Hunt will flourish this year. Being moved back to the half back line where he can play with more freedom and utlise his strongest asset.

Will be one of the top 3 improvers.

I know its only round 4 but Hunt so far is looking terrific.....

I still see him as a forward, but he is looking good so far this year - a coupe of very good contributions within that short timeframe. I must admit that his linkage with Langdon and other runners is terrific.

I said it in the post game thread, but I thought there was 0% chance we would see him back to his 2017 form again. The dash is back and his disposal has been tidier this year, he is a real weapon if this form keeps up.

He is a defender that had run and dare but couldn't kick, that was his issue ran off HBF great but turned it over and was then out of position.  Seems to be kicking with in his limitations now hitting targets and picking better options.  Also helps that our back line balance hasn't been this good for a very long time.  May/Lever/Jetta/Tomlinson/Rivers/Hunt/Salem they are a strong unit with confidence.  Salem and Hunt have the confidence to create off half back knowing that the other defenders will work to cover their man.

Man he is quick, like lightening. He has a guy in front of him and still takes him on.

Fantastic that he has lowered his eyes and now finds targets. I very much doubted he could do it but he is proving me wrong. His pace along with Landgon, Kozzi etc make a huge different to our team and impacts how opposition teams set up

Well done @jnrmac

He plays his role as Langdon-lite and his decision making has improved. Kicking doesn’t improve for blokes that have been around footy for so long, only decision making improves.

I think there is a role for any useful player in a good side if they stick to their strengths and play their role.

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
