These umpires are cheating. Get Brisbane into a GF clearly the objective

While I want Brisbane to win, Geelong are getting screwed by the umpires.

Cats have wasted opportunities and should be further in front. Interesting second half coming up!

Even half a step slower these days, Ablett is still dangerous and just such a smart footballer. Still contributing at his age. Superstar!

The umpiring in this game is close to the worst I've seen in a final. 10 - 2 Brisbane's way but it's beyond these simple numbers. It's Cats being pinged for everything and Lions being let go. How was the call against Ablett for the shot at goal!

You cannot tell me that such lopsided umpiring doesn't effect momentum and then result. The Brisbane in GF narrative is surely a compelling one for the AFL

I thaught Fitzroy came back into the game about 1/2 way through that quarter. They keep this up they will win.

10-2 free kicks, blatant bias from the 'noise of affirmation'

I've gone from ambivalent about the result to way too annoyed at the umpiring.

AFL would love the lions in the GF. Umpires are doing their best to make it happen. Pretty disgraceful, the ump with dark hair has got to be on the take.

I’ve cracked the Channel 7 commentary formula...

‘Recognised player x almost does something spectacular, but ultimately fails to impact the contest. Commentators talk back and forth about what was almost done, and completely ignore the action of what’s happening. Wait for the next stoppage to rejoin the action. Immediately comment on what a good job umpire (insert umpires full name) is doing. Wait until a player breaks free of the contest and immediately call their kick either a ‘chiseler’ or a ‘squeezy one’. Rinse and repeat.’

How’d I go? Do I get the job?

If Ablett wanted to play one more year

id sign him for sure

No. You forgot to say “we all know that”.

Darcy was trying to explain tactics at half time. Someone give the boy a sticker and let him play in the sand pit for the rest of the day

Lol Theo, that's what i think. He said something at one stage like 'that's what I thought i saw' before awarding another Brisbane freekick

I really do hate Geelong and Richmond.

I don't think Brisbane deserve to be in a granny after watching this first half.

However, if there's ever a time for these cheating yellow maggots to give a team a ride to a premiership cup, it's this year.

If this favouritism continues for the lions this week and next, it might actually make the media and then the afl take the lack of professionalism and quality of these umps seriously and actually do something about it.......or maybe not.

If we can give Bennell a year we can certainly give Ablett a year. Pure class

The Lions ruckmen have sh-t for brains. At every throw in they are behind the Cats ruckman, who is  getting the tap or grabbing the ball every time. The commentators have finally twigged to it. Dumbest football you could see. Hawkins in front, in the forward line throw ins,  has got the ball every time.

Cats & tigers gf wax hoping port & lions so nobody I know would be happy winning a flag

2020 has been such a [censored] year, why not add a Geelong flag to the list of horrible things we’ve had to go through ?

The great Charlie has had a blinder since quarter time. Compare that to Ablett. Maybe he needs to get that motor bike revved up

Geelong just dominating, but the lions are still in this.

That missed shot by Hipwood was a disgrace. Directly in front, no excuses.

  • WHAT’S NEXT? by The Oracle

What’s next for a beleagured Melbourne Football Club down in form and confidence, facing  intense criticism and disapproval over some underwhelming recent performances and in the midst of a four game losing streak? Why, it’s Adelaide which boasts the best percentage in the AFL and has won six of its last seven games. The Crows are hot and not only that, the game is at the Adelaide Oval; yet another away fixture and the third in a row at a venue outside of Victoria. One of the problems the Demons have these days is that they rarely have the luxury of true home ground advantage, something they have enjoyed just once since mid April.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
