YesitwasaWin4theAges 6,825 Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 (edited) Why not at the right price, we are in need of a fwd/mid that is quick and applies elite pressure, something we need more of. I would be feeding right off of the dead carcass that is Essendrug. Edited October 9, 2020 by Win4theAges 1 1 Quote
AaronDaveyChipsAndGravey 390 Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 Can't see Dodo letting 4 best 22 players out the gate, or maybe their problems really are that bad. Regardless, could be a decent get as a more outside positioned mid that we've been after. Still reckon a decent forward would be the priority before someone like Smith Quote
rjay 25,424 Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 Would have been a more than handy forward but doesn't appear to have come back the same player after major injury. Lost a yard? Would need a thorough medical... 2 Quote
MadAsHell 4,217 Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 Good player, but doesn't really address any of our main needs (key forward, wingman, small defender/HBF), so it's a pass from me. Quote
Pulp Fritschon 774 Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 His numbers looked ok in 2020. Has some appeal but not a heap. 28 next year and contracted. They wont do a deal easily and he would be on a decent salary. Wasting our time to get involved I think. Quote
Deeoldfart 8,201 Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 Very good at his best, but his type not at the top of our priority list. Quote
whatwhat say what 23,857 Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 much as there's been minimal interest in t mac since he signed a decent deal and copped a few serious injuries, much the same would probably be true of smith he's definitely not the player he was several years ago 2 Quote

A skilled pressure mid/forward is probably as big a need as any of those other positions. We lose a lot of games because we don't have midfield rotations to keep the work rate high, we don't have guys to take the handball receives from Oliver and co and we don't have anyone who can kick inside 50. We need the yin to Petracca's yang. It doesn't stand out as a need because we've never used someone in that role, but to me it's a clear need and why we got Bennell. Quote
spirit of norm smith 16,679 Posted October 10, 2020 Posted October 10, 2020 (edited) no because I think he would cost to much in terms of $$$$$ and compensation in picks/players. He’s ok but not the fast wingman type we should use our $ to be chasing. Edited October 10, 2020 by spirit of norm smith Y 1 Quote
Garbo 1,567 Posted October 11, 2020 Posted October 11, 2020 Good pressure fwd, doesn’t kick many but knows how to lay a tackle (something we are sorely lacking) and had off an assist, Quote

Age 24. Experienced. 90 games. 44 goals. Left foot wing. Fits straight in. Reasonable price in $ and trade. Offer 3 years which Pies wouldn’t. Offer our future 2021 2nd round pick. Quote

Okay, but curious as to why, considering the compromised nature of this year's draft, you'd offer next year's pick instead of this year's? Quote

Optimism. Get Phillips for 12 months before having to pay 2021 compo. And because our future 2nd 2021 pick will be in the 30s as we rise up the ladder ? Quote
TRIGON 4,821 Posted October 11, 2020 Posted October 11, 2020 (edited) On the optimistic side, you'd hope that next year's pick was somewhere between 30 and 36 ?. Going with the 'Sunshine & Lollypops' scenario, the next questions to ask are: What does next year's draft crop look like compared to this year's? Where will our current 2nd round pick slide to in this year's compromised draft? Edited October 11, 2020 by TRIGON Quote
