Why not at the right price, we are in need of a fwd/mid that is quick and applies elite pressure, something we need more of.

I would be feeding right off of the dead carcass that is Essendrug.

Can't see Dodo letting 4 best 22 players out the gate, or maybe their problems really are that bad. Regardless, could be a decent get as a more outside positioned mid that we've been after. Still reckon a decent forward would be the priority before someone like Smith

Would have been a more than handy forward but doesn't appear to have come back the same player after major injury.

Lost a yard?

Would need a thorough medical...

Good player, but doesn't really address any of our main needs (key forward, wingman, small defender/HBF), so it's a pass from me.

Very good at his best, but his type not at the top of our priority list.

His numbers looked ok in 2020.  Has some appeal but not a heap. 28 next year and contracted.  They wont do a deal easily and he would be on a decent salary. Wasting our time to get involved I think.

Yeah, I'd love him in our forward half but tend to agree with your summary of the situation.

I'd take Tippa but not Smith.

A skilled pressure mid/forward is probably as big a need as any of those other positions. We lose a lot of games because we don't have midfield rotations to keep the work rate high, we don't have guys to take the handball receives from Oliver and co and we don't have anyone who can kick inside 50. We need the yin to Petracca's yang.

It doesn't stand out as a need because we've never used someone in that role, but to me it's a clear need and why we got Bennell.

no because I think he would cost to much in terms of $$$$$ and compensation in picks/players. He’s ok but not the fast wingman type we should use our $ to be chasing.

I’m looking at Tom Phillips as the most likely gettable option.

Age 24. Experienced.  90 games.  44 goals.
Left foot wing. Fits straight in.
Reasonable price in $ and trade. Offer 3 years which Pies wouldn’t.
Offer our future 2021 2nd round pick.

Okay, but curious as to why, considering the compromised nature of this year's draft, you'd offer next year's pick instead of this year's?

Optimism.

Get Phillips for 12 months before having to pay 2021 compo.

And because our future 2nd 2021 pick will be in the 30s as we rise up the ladder ?

On the optimistic side, you'd hope that next year's pick was somewhere between 30 and 36 ?.

Going with the 'Sunshine & Lollypops' scenario, the next questions to ask are:

  1. What does next year's draft crop look like compared to this year's?
  2. Where will our current 2nd round pick slide to in this year's compromised draft?
