Sam Frost 7th in Hawks B&F

In my view this result  vindicates the "Blunder" of letting him go when we did. I saw enough of him in HAWKS games to say that his "Percieved"  deficiencies have been eradicated to a greater degree and he played some good solid football. Its interesting to see what coaches that know how to get the best out of players do so. I reckon though, that Sam Frost will continue to improve not dissimilar to Bachar Houli when he went from Essendon to Richmond. If that happens then the blunder in letting him go will be even more pronounced and damning. I  Was disappointed to see him leave Melbourne and even more so now!

The blunder isn't letting him go.

Its the clubs inability to develop and improve  raw talent. (Oliver, Brayshaw, Viney, are the best examples)

Petracca being the exception but likey down to Burgess.

Pickett, finishing 7th in the best and fairest in a bottom 4 club isn't exactly a glowing endorsement on Frost.

If he was as good as you've made him out to be there why didn't he finish top 4?

 

Watched several Hawthorn games this year and he has not improved one bit. Was poor and butchered the footy majority of the game. One prime example was against saints when Hawthorn had all of the momentum in the last quarter and he took a kicked out, sprinted 25m and kicked it straight to a St Kilda player who kicked a goal and took all of Hawthorn's momentum away and cost them a potential win.

Its no coincidence that after trading Frost out our defence was the best its been for years.

Average player at best.

I will maintain that letting Frost go, ahead of OMac was a massive oversight that i still cannot understand. Yes he was a turnover king, but so were half the team. The only reason we noticed him more is that half back turnovers whilst in transition usually result in scores against. 

He is a very good lockdown defender, with great closing speed and can play big and tall. Granted he has average to below average disposal efficiency but compared against Omac will beat him in almost every skill attribute.

Agree with you and as Dazzle has pointed out 7th May not be a super result from a bottom 4 team but given he never got anywhere near that at Melbourne it does display some development. On that basis he is still , as you say a massive upgrade on Oscar!

I do suppose having Tomlinson can be considered an upgrade, given his better use of the footy, but we loose out massively on agility and having Tomo play on the wing.

What does that make OMac? an non athlete with NFI? Im not saying Frost is to be considered for the Brownlow but as a 2nd or 3rd tall, fits our list profile so much better than anyone else.

Seriously, our backline is not the problem. We have significantly bigger issues to rectify. Frost leaving is a non issue, particularly given we got pick 23 in return for him

Well done Frosty.....like others, it highlights to obvious blunder the Dees made. In my opinion, the backline is a problem because we are all slow. The ability to break the lines & transverse the footy up the ground quickly to our forwards is critical & has impacted our year.

Having both Frosty & Hunt fit & firing in our backline would have made a huge difference to this years result.

The real opportunity lost this year was Frost on a wing. After watching Langdon's effort this year, another hard running wingman could have been beneficial. Frosty's run and effort and, even with his at times unfocused delivery, could have made a difference.

We will never know because we never tried or experimented.

So, we wanted Frost ahead of Oscar who played just a few games for the year?

It has to be realised, that isn't a tenable position to take as a club.

Frost has gone to another club where he can play games of footy.

If he was at the Dees, he'd have to replace either May or Lever, or wait for the opportunity in the odd game where matchups require a third tall.

Don't get me wrong, Frost is fun to watch but I totally understand the need not to have such a chaotic player in our back half.

Also, I think May might have enjoyed his year a little more without Sam there.

Good on him. Desperately unlucky not to finish 6th, given that Sicily only played 11 games. 

He finished 9th in the B&F for us last year.

Not so sure finishing 7th in a B&F vindicates the ‘Blunder’ of letting Frost go. Wish him well but I don’t think using this is a strong argument considering the OP doesn’t give credit to the bloke that finished 3rd in our B&F.

The Hawks had only 8 guys who played 15 or more games for the season, of those only Hardwick and O'Brien didn't make the top 7 of their B&F, neither of those guys would get near our team. He was just as ordinary with the Hawks as what he was with us, he just managed to play more games there than most. I'm still very happy we got rid of him.

This thread is laughable, @picket fence.

And @DeeSpencer, I'd take Tomlinson over Frost every day of the week. One is a headless chook, the other you don't see much of and the players around him step up. Classic role player. Frost... classic headless chook.

The 21st century has seen a rise in project players. I hope we witness a decline in these speculative athletes with little football understanding. It's not something you can suddenly teach to a 20 year old that's used to running around in circles on an Aths track. Probably explains why he runs around in circles on a football field.

As for Frost, it's not good practice to trade out every half-decent player on your list who isn't best 22. It means you get left with, as we have at the moment, 20 decent footballers and 20 who have no right being on an AFL list.

Richmond's players 21 - 30 are light years ahead of ours, hence they don't fall away every time they have a couple of injuries.

pf   Please you don't forget  Joel Smith  he will never develop into a player.  At least Frosty took the game on   as Smith is a  witches hat. Goody made a big mistake. 

With Lever having a better year and  May having a sensational one it would have made Frosty' a better player with the confidence gathered from having them there.

That would have been Smiths  replacement.
