Agreed. You've made some good points here. Especially the one about being in the AFL bubble. I hope he has a successful post-AFL career and life, whether it requires any growing up or not.

I suppose what I mean by growing up is acting like the adult that he is and making better choices. I think he spent a large amount of formative adult years 18-21 being told “you’ll be a superstar” and probably surrounding himself with enablers, there are plenty of people out there that reach the age of 29 but still act like they’re 18.

Here's my take. People make mistakes. And it's possible to make mistakes and still be 'a top bloke'. These things are not mutually exclusive. I'd argue that it's fluid for all of us.

There's a trend on social media to damn people for all eternity for real and perceived indiscretions. You appear to have embraced this 'cancel culture' and run with it here on Demonland. That's your right of course, it's a forum. But it's (for mine) joyless. And, at it's heart, lazy.

Jack Watts - what a lad? Still a young bloke who enjoys life. He never had the steel to take his game to the top level.  
 

Always thought footy was secondary.  Jack loves golf and hanging out with family and friends.  And mostly his mates from school and footy. 
 

He was a good player. That’s not to be questioned.  His goalkicking was elite.  
He had such talent.  Perhaps unfulfilled certainly.

I get that you don't rate Jack Watts. What I don't get are your desperate attempts to get people to agree with you (which includes 'open your eyes' comments) ...on a Melbourne supporter forum. 

You asked whether I thought Watts was a good player. Yes, I thought Watts was a good player. At times, he was also a match winner.

You can make absurd 'Weideman attacks the ball 100 times harder' statements but that just reinforces that you don't know what you're talking about. I'm not even sure why you thought to bring another player into it.

 

Suns, Saints and Blues were into Watts through 2015 and Hawks in the 2016 post season. He stayed loyal. Says more than fuc@&&))ts like Scully who walked out as soon as he could.

I didn't listen to the full thing but the club posted a clip which was just Gawn and Wattsy having a laugh over Watts getting absolutely blitzed at Max's wedding. Whilst Gus watches on thinking wow what a great time.

He was traded for pick 31 in his prime. That's where melbourne rated him and port Adelaide. I personally thought it was a steal for us. You can't carry blokes that don't attack the football. 

l don't buy that Jack was played too early and it hampered his development line. Luke Jackson competes fine in his 1st year and played earlier than watts. Jack just didn't have the work ethic, grit and competitiveness but he did have amazing talent. Jack will continue to drift through life in my opinion, hopefully staying happy and safe

No idea what you said and it’s been said before but it’s not free speech on here when the owners of the site can be taken to court for what is posted here.
 

It’s not the Wild West of that putrid thing facebook or twitter. Demonland is an incredible place for us to talk rubbish and pontificate but it can no longer go into some areas. Grow up or go start your own site.

I did watch the thing and I didn't get exactly the same impression as that.  It did seem to me that Max and Watts were pretty good mates and that Maxy doesn't mind having a good time on the turps from time to time during the off season.  But I think Max's professionalism in his personal fitness and football over the past 3 or 4 years has been exceptional to a level that I don't get the impression Jack ever came near.  I think Max's team mates would respect the example that he sets of professionalism during the season, but also being able to be a fun and relatable guy within sensible limits when it's time to switch off.

I've got zero concerns about Gus.  He gives me the impression that he's a pretty smart guy and solid citizen with his head screwed on well.

I've always thought Jack offered us something on the field worthy of his place in the side.  Probably never lived up to the superstar expectations that were put on him, but a decient player none the less.

After he was delisted by Port and subsequently retired, I did wounder if he'd could be worth us taking another punt on, particularly on the basis of his elite delivery into the forward line and goal kicking.  But I must say watching his performance on the captain's run podcast, that certainly left me with the impression that he is more focused on life outside football his motivation levels to play are not there.
