How did the information get out and circulated about that Oliver had been asked to increase his standing start from the contest pace? In my opinion that should be completely in house....

Pretty sure Clarry mentioned it in an interview and that he credited Burgess for suggesting it

It could easily be a range of things we aren't privy to behind closed doors. Could be a personal matter that wasn't handled in the right matter, who knows. Its easy to speculate from what we see on the telly, but hub life has brought out the best and worst of clubs.

This. I would be grumpy by default if forced to live full-time in the laps of my workmates for the past five months, no matter how much I like them. Plenty of tensions and some flare-ups, I bet. Young, immature team, partial boredom, and a more challenging season for us than most. Everyone probably just needs a good defrag and some time apart.

I am with you there wiseblood, too many people just believe every bit of garbage that is thrown around. No wonder con artists and scammers do so well.

Yes indeed,

The reports of the track watchers in the previous years, always had me believing the best was about to happen.

Last year much better, I was just hoping and wanting the best.

but far more realistic. Hope we get the same this pre season.

If I was Clarry I would be waiting til years end to see how we go. If we don’t make finals next year I reckon he walks.

That’s absolute rubbish, how in Gods name do you know what he’s thinking??

Its not always about making finals, there’s friendships, loyalty & integrity as well

Not all all players jump ship just for the sake of making finals

Clarry to me is a loyal bloke not a money hungry grub that would walk away for the sake of a premiership

Where do I say “this is what he is thinking”?

It is my opinion, that’s all.

Can someone just settle this argument by asking him what his intentions are and what his problem, if any, is?

What happened to good old fashioned reporting?  Actually talk to people, not run with the latest rumours.

Exactly!  How is this thread still going!?
It was a throw-away comment in a gossip segment on a sensationalist football chat show.
No media outlet has run with, it's a complete non-story.

It sits at the top of the board every day and you click on it thinking that something has actually been said/happened... but, no; there's nothing new.

This could be a big factor. Being in close quarters to your coaches and teammates might not be the best for some people an they want out. Perhaps he saw how other teams operate (ie: Collingwood in the same resort playing finals) and wants what they have.

Look at the calibre of our assistants and look at the calibre of the Pies assistants. *

* I know the move is linked to Carlton but Clarry would have seen greener pastures up close and perhaps just that got him wanting better out of his career.

For what it's worth I don't think he will go this year but if we don't make finals next year we will have an Essendon like exodus.

Clarry has to focus on becoming a Demon champion, if he does we make finals year on year. He could be best player in the comp by next year with Trac right by his side.

The old guard on here are just that, out of touch with the reality of modern professional footballers. Part of it is they refuse to acknowlege players and their managers shop themselves around or the reality that Clubs have been approaching our players since 1965. Sure some of it does not come to fruition but it does not make it all hysteria and rubbish. I think Oliver and Petracca are the best talents we have had in decades, but in my opinion next year, everything is on the line. And I dont think just making making will be enough.

Is there any source for this information though or is it still all from McClure on footy classified uttering 6 words two weeks ago..?

On radio this morning the discussion was around Carlton, their salary cap and De Goey, however Clarrie got a mention and I bet all managers have been involved. It was stated that as Carlton have paid under their cap the last 2 years they can now pay 5% over for next season and a set period beyond. Their recruiting team set a list of targets that included De Goey and Clarrie as well as Saad and Williams and who else knows. It was then stated that a few weeks ago De Goey was very heavily into Carlton on their promise of money and more midfield time. For those who cannot see where the money is coming from Carlton have been saving and planning this and now making a raid on their targets.

I don't know the sequence but as Carlton cannot approach a player in contract directly, they would have to have approached Clarrie's manager first to see if there is any interest. If he is doing his job he would be negligent not to let Clarrie know. OK so Clarrie is miffed about something and McLure leaks a rumour on FC, all part of the game.

I hope MFC told them firmly to F.O. but approaches are made all the time. Carlton got newness last year and Martin for nothing doing the dirty on Gold Coast via the delisted free agent draft and may even get Saad the same way, so they have form

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
