Just putting it out there, but Brayshaw must have some currency now after the season he's playing.

We actually have Brisbanes 2nd round pick rather than our own after the tade period last year.

As it sits we have pick 21 as well as pick pick 38 (tied to Hawks 3rd rounder) and pick 54 (tied to bulldogs 3rd rounder).

Here's hoping hawks and lions continue to have a bad year.

Thanks @Nascent, let the death-riding begin!

Keep Brayshaw and get rid of Harmes.

He's only slightly more valuable than Dom Tyson (3 years back). So he's not in any conversation relating to Merrett imo.  And speaking of North, they'll be desperate to add 5x 25-26 year olds to chaperone their kids, after a season of thumpings. They give us pick 19, we give them our 3rd & Harmes.

Why do people keep talking about trades when discussing Free Agent's?

This is intangible and crucial. Trading Newport last century hurt that Northey group immeasurably because he was a key part of the playing culture (even though the result was drafting Jakovic).

Good example. Steven Newport was one of the keys to our ball movement successes in that era; and, game by game, season by season, his skills shone brighter as he locked in on the Coach's requirements and the team cohesion. A highly underrated player, just like some people these days regard Gus Brayshaw.

It would be either

A. In the case of Merrett being a RFA, most suspect the Bombers would match and force a trade considering their previous trade period behaviour.

And/or

B. A presumption we have little cap space to entice a free agent and need to trade out players on coin to bring others in.

Both are justifiable thoughts in my view.

Should be going after Jordan Clark, dropped again after being played out of position

Retaining Trac, Salem etc should be our priority.

Of course.

But it's not an either/or situation.

May be, but I understand our salary cap is tight so I’m not sure if we would be able to reward Trac and Salem adequately and pay big bucks for someone from another club who would demand top dollar.

If we want him and he wants to come it will get done.

If we want him and he thinks we can't pay him enough then he really doesn't want to come.

Yep.

And the better we are this year, the more likely we are to lure these sort of players on lesser dollars.

Go deep and some of our current stars will take less too.

Hawthorn and Geelong have shown this.

Another factor to consider is the bombers could get a top 5 compo pick depending on the offer and how their season goes. Would beat any trade outcome you would think.

Would think that after last night, if Merrett is going anywhere, it's the Dogs, the Tiges or us. If the Dogs, they'll be even stronger, so we better make a play for him.

On that, feel a bit uncomfortable saying it but Weid out if comes to a trade?

Might need to be the Weid + Harmes. I’d still do the trade (if BB turns out like we hope and LJ continues to impress), as you need to bat deep in the midfield.

Let the ink settle on Petraccas Contract before we start chasing someone only half as good.

If Merrett is happy to take less here than at Essendon, then sure, but I can't see Essendon not matching it.

Would love Merrett though. Would compliment Oliver, Petracca and Viney beautifully. His ball use and spread from contest is elite.

I'd say we'll look elsewhere to add to our.midfield, unless something/someone comes out of nowhere.

I want to follow this one up. Would Essendon stand in his way? They do have a rep as we know, down at Essendon...

He is a talent and would complement us immensely but at the same time it can't be anything over 600k a year otherwise it doesn't make sense.

We are a destination club now, your coming to be apart of success so you have to sacrifice $$$$, not to take the best $$$$ and not be successful.

Observation or do you have the word on him? Odd they'd play him at all if they felt he was unfit

Good player but I'd target Lachie Ash if the rumours are true he wants to move back to Victoria. That dash out of the backline is tantalising...

Just re-signed with GWS for 2 years.

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.

We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
