I'd be genuinely staggered if it was a straight swap.

I'd be doing cartwheels down the street on the way to Tim Lamb's house to drop off a slab type of surprised.

But I hope you're right!

Yeah it'd be a good trade for us for sure, but the situation is tipped in our favour I reckon.

It's just a suggestion rather than a rumour anyway.

I like Maynard and he would make us better. However I would rather use whatever space is left in the cap or draft position to target a mid. I think it is a bigger priority for us

I would have thought a young key forward to develop would be our highest priority - particularly if Weid and Mitch Brown end up not on our list in 2022

Collingwood will want a late 1st rounder potentially. They want to build through the draft again and Maynard is probably worth that. If they can get Daicos early on with another later 1st rounder then I think they'll be happy with that.

Maynard is a gun, he was named in the All Australian squad last year, so Collingwood have every right to play hard ball as well considering he's still contracted.

He's also a 'pre-agent' so Collingwood would be pretty silly to play hard ball if he requests a trade. He'll then walk next year, and if it's to us he won't be getting huge money so their prime time for getting decent compensation is now.

Given where Daicos will go surely they'll want a future first or a player need, otherwise they risk any picks being eaten up.

Yeah but they'll back their system in to keep him especially if he warms to the new coach like its been reported about him wanting to wait to see who coaches Collingwood.

Adelaide are red hot for Maynard also and would be more then willing to pay big money for him if he does walk. They've got the salary and space to pay above for someone like Maynard. So there's a high chance the pies could still net a mid to late first rounder.

Lol Weed for Maynard straight swap would have me in tears.

I'd love us to be able to work our way up to try and get Mac.

Looking at his highlights he is unreal

So being reported that Clarko wont coach until 2023. I cannot see Teague sticking around - absolute shambles for the Blues.

Having said that, i think we really chase Cerra hard as he'd be an out-an-out [censored] to go to the Blues at this rate. He is young and is an up and coming star and would surely be wanting to go somewhere that isnt rebuilding. His asking price is high though and i think if we can get him on a 1.0 - 1.2 (total), 2 year deal as a 'bridging' contract then it might be possible salary cap wise - frankly he doesn't deserve a 750K / year deal yet - maybe in his next contract and the Blues will insanely be making the same Martin / Saad / Williams mistake once more.

If we can score Cerra and Maynard at the cost of Weid + 2nd rounder  to the Pies , future 1st and <another player> to Freo that would be an absolute massive win. Yes i know - lots of ifs and buts here, but we can take a harder line than most given our success on field this year. Also, if it doesnt happen, im not too fussed as im happy with the 22- 28 players on our list.

We still need to solve the long term issue around a KPF but we have 1-2 years at least with BBB / TMac. Possibly make a play for Ben King in 2023.

Gut feel is the club would like to keep Weid given the ages of TMac and Brown, but given the last couple of weeks (non-selection) I think maybe he's told them he'd like to go elsewhere for more consistent opportunity.

Nev, do you really think he'd be dumb enough to do that when we have finals still to play? After maybe, but surely not before.

lol.

Have you heard of that salary cap thingo?

I think players and list managers are pretty open during the year. Both parties would want to know what's happening well before now, most deals are in the works well before the end of the season.

It's a professional industry, I don't think these things are as emotional for clubs and players as they are for us.

We don't have the picks or salary to satisfy Freo/Cerra.

He ain't coming to Melbourne.

can't fault your optimism at least.

Collingwood still have salary cap issues, especially with Moore and DeGoey being free agents next year so if Maynard did request a trade I can't see there being too much pushback from the pies and small/medium defenders is one of their strongest positions on the ground.

That being said though I rate Maynard extremely highly, I view him as a top 3 negating small/medium defender in the comp who can also find the footy with ease and use it well, I'd be more than happy to give up our future 1st for him would be a deal that benefits both clubs, gotta remember he's only 24! I rate Weideman much less than others on here I just don't see his ceiling: he doesn't have a ground level game, he's an inconsistent mark, and an inconsistent shot at goal, I'd be more than happy to let him go in any deal that benefits our best 22. I'd offer them Weideman + Future 1st for Maynard + Sidebottom, which I think greatly benefits both clubs.

played some good footy toward the end of year

played a great game vs Pies and one I remember vs tigers where they gave them half of the 'G just to run around.

he's a handy player and would be a good fit at Freo/GC or even Pies while they all climb.

don't think he's exactly what we need and defensively he'd need a big shake up.

I can't see us adding any more mids to our team from FA

Tracc, Oliver, Brayshaw, Viney, Langdon, Jordon, Harmes, Sparrow, Rivers (might get a look next year).

It's pretty full at the moment.

Got to kick those tyres. Gunston is a gun.

We would struggle to field all of Fritsch, Brown, T Mac and Gunston ...

Wonder what they are thinking...

Question marks on the sustainability of McDonald's form would be my guess. Had an awesome year but hard to trust a bloke long term when he's gone missing for seasons.

Let alone Weideman. Sounds like his  cards are marked if this is to be believed.

Maynard would be a brilliant get. Replacement for Hibbo but also gives us a lot of options to push Rivers or Bowey to the middle or half forward.

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
