Given we showed interest in Isaac Smith, would we have a discussion with Steele Sidebottom.  He has great skills and I think is a free agent.  Pies have salary cap challenges.  He probably will want a 2 year deal as a minimum.  We are in the premiership window and his experience and skill would be a welcome addition.  Risk and reward.

No for me

We need youth or someone between 21-27 who will develop in the next few years

Yep, you're right, just checked, he only kicked one of them with Maynard as his opponent.

Yeah, it was a funny game, the commentators pretty much banging on for an entire half on why Maynard wasn't on him before the switch

Bizarre hey? You would just automatically think that's the match up.

hibberd was fine on greene; he had 7 disposals and kicked 3 goals - he made his possessions count but barely got it and hibbo completely blanketed him

hunt was one of the the ONLY players working hard in the last quarter to try and keep us in the game; he was pinged because he got caught betwixt and between kicking for goal and setting up a teammate - it was both good (in that he wanted to do the 'team' thing) and bad (in that he didn't back himself in to kick the goal and as such got caught holding the ball)

that said...i want maynard as he perfectly suits our list and side's structure, has family history at the mfc

from all reports, cerra is definitely on the move - he is gonna command serious $$ for a player who has yet to really 'break out'

Didn't someone post that Cerra has agreed to terms with Richmond already? If he has, I wonder if he's rethinking those terms after the last few weeks.

Touk Miller is apparently in contract negotiations with Gold Coast.

I'd put the feelers out. He's exactly what we need.

Just seen him in the lobby of the hotel I am staying at having a pretty chilled conversation with his manager.

Off topic also walked past the entire west coast squad coping a bit of a talking to from Adam Simpson in the same lobby, a few of the players gave me a funny look as I walked past with my demons mask on.

Age Footy Podcast talking Richmond/trades. They think Cerra would be mad to go to Richmond.

Players seem to have a very myopic view of other teams and he may not have seen their decline coming...

See: Saad & Carlton

Also keen to see which payer Essendon inevitably pay big bucks to thinking they're one piece short after finishing 11th.

Saad was surely all $$$ based.

His reputation has been trashed at Carlton, the media loved reminding everyone he didn’t want to defend and couldn’t

It wasn't. His management rebuffed our approach before an offer could be made.

Any particular reason why?

We need someone who can kick straight for goal. I'm so over this bloody behind business. We needed 10 points to beat GWS last week which by our standards is 1 Goal 4 Behinds. At what stage are we going to prioritise goal kicking? Gerard Healy mentioned on  'On the Couch' about moving Petracca forward. This would be yet another example of not prioritising goal kicking as Petracca can't kick for [censored] at goal. We can't carry Fritsch, Weideman, Jackson, Gawn, Petracca, Pickett and expect to win games consistently. Every time we miss easy shots we're basically saying 'Here, take the ball, and have an inside 50 to go with it'. I'm sick of it. We either trade for it (which we did with Ben Brown but he can't make the team) or we draft for it.

There's a reason that Weightman has gone ahead of Pickett as the best small forward of the draft. He is accurate!

Time to start prioritising it because the momentum you lose from a missed shot loses games. Our misses on the weekend were a big reason for our loss.

I feel your pain and agree with almost every word you said.

I think he was a way down the path with Carlton before it was industry knowledge he wanted to leave Essendon, family is settled in the Northern suburbs and we probably weren't the greatest cultural fit for him.

I know he’s a good player, but having watched South Park, I have to force myself not to smile every time his name is mentioned.

lots of media running with the story that son son walters has had a falling out with longmuir, which is why his form is so far down this season

31 at the start of next season, if he was going 'on the cheap' we'd be crazy not to be keen you'd think

I've had the inside word on our preferred target and I can't believe it's not Butters.

Both Lever and Langdon we were reportedly keen on during their draft year. We obviously kept tabs on them and got into their ear for the better part of a season, if not longer, to bring them across.

It's also widely known that tried to trade our future first to target Butters I the draft but had no takers.

Just hoping that he's one we're tracking and having a quiet word to lure him back across whether it be in a season or twos time or later. Have no idea on his contract status and Port are stubbornly efficient at keeping vic kids the don't want to lose so it's more wishful thinking than anything.

Yes Port would release their best young kid.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
