spirit of norm smith 16,677 Posted October 18, 2020 Posted October 18, 2020 Some observations 1- I’m still surprised Ed Langdon didn’t get a single vote !!! He was clearly BOG vs the Pies. 2- Oliver and Gawn perhaps over voted but they are right under the umps noses in the contest. If Max stays fit, I’d reckon he would be a chance one day to grab a Brownlow. 3- Trac is a star ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4- Steven May is a star. ⭐️⭐️⭐️???? 5- Trac was best dressed. Three piece suit. 6- Max needs help with his grooming AND another bloke who can’t tie a tie !!! Great footballer. Funny bloke. 7- Now Trac and Gus have a Brownlow bronze medal. 8- Dees got total 61 votes. 6th highest. 1 4 Quote

Half forward flank 1,022 Posted October 18, 2020 Posted October 18, 2020 I do not rate the Brownlow due to its midfielders bias but it does give a clue to the gulf in Olivers thinking regarding his own performances. And that may be that midfielders think they are more important than anyone else. As for that Bailey Smith getting 3 votes against us. Give me a break. 1 Quote

The thing I've noticed about the brownlow over the years, if you had a good year previous, the umpires already know to look for you, ie. Clarry at Maxy getting plenty votes . I expect Tracc to poll even better next year, same goes with the AA 5 Quote

That should be enough to offset any disappointment at being just a few points behind him in the BnF. 9th is really an amazing effort by Oliver when we had Petracca and Gawn polling well. Hopefully, that quietens the folks on here that have questioned his 2020 performance. Good to see the umpires finally giving him the recognition he deserves. 8 1 Quote

What I would say to that is Oliver in his first years was doing what Neale does and that is putting the handball in front of the player to run on to. It should have been/be an easy coaching task to show and explain this to Clayton. He may have said, but our players are stationary, which would then mean coaching is needed down the line to players receiving Clayton handball to get into space. More than one moving part. 2 1 Quote

An elite core with some decent support players and then a marked drop off at the bottom. We've now even got the Martin going to North equivalent with Clarry to Carlton. It can turn quickly. I reckon Richmond's Brownlow spread would have been similar in those aforementioned years to ours tonight. Fix the system, bring in Yze, two or three other highly rated assistants, add Brown, Smith, Phillips and a speedy pressure forward or two and we'll be in the top 4 mix next year. The competition is soft. Richmond can't keep it going forever, Geelong are getting old. No one else scares me. 2016 Dustin Martin 25 Trent Cotchin 9 *Alex Rance 7 Ben Griffiths 4 Brandon Ellis 3 Jack Riewoldt 2 Shaun Grigg, Anthony Miles 1 2015 Dustin Martin 21 Trent Cotchin 17 Anthony Miles 9 *Brett Deledio, Alex Rance 8 Brandon Ellis 7 Shane Edwards 6 Taylor Hunt, *Ty Vickery 4 *Ivan Maric, Jack Riewoldt 3 Bachar Houli, Kamdyn McIntosh 2 2014 Trent Cotchin 18 Dustin Martin 13 *Brett Deledio 12 Brandon Ellis 9 Jack Riewoldt 7 Anthony Miles 4 Alex Rance 3 *Reece Conca 2 *Ty Vickery 1 2013 Trent Cotchin 19 Dustin Martin 16 Brett Deledio 10 Daniel Jackson 9 Brandon Ellis, Shaun Grigg, Bachar Houli 5 Jack Riewoldt 4 Aaron Edwards, Alex Rance, Matt White 2 Tyrone Vickery, Nick Vlastuin 1 They made finals 2013-15 but not 2016. But there's an obvious consistency: Martin and Cotchin. To be fair, two of their other A-graders during that time were Riewoldt and Rance, and forwards/defenders don't poll well. 2 Quote
