The Cats probably just chimed in to make us go to 3 years.

Doing a favour for Liam Pickering.

Being the gutless club that we are we immediately went to 3 no doubt.

Didn't think of that part.  Obviously it wouldn't be a straight swap, but if they're keen then it could definitely be done.

It might be if Phillips is squeezed out. Nev is still contracted for another year.

He is turning 32 in a few months, even a 2 year contract is a stretch.

The current season was only his 10th, so in terms of wear and tear on the body he is a very young 32.

He is still killing it in the time trials at the Hawks, having won it every season between 2015-2019 and coming 3rd this season, behind a couple of endurance freak new recruits.

So... running/endurance is not an issue, he has good skills, is a booming left kick, we are in desperate need of a left winger and we can get a proven one in Smith for free.

What is not to like?

Yea clubs with a salary cap, in a COVID world with money drying up just go in for a player for chits and giggles. Lols.

As above clubs will then freak out to add more money/term because of the above. More lols.

Interesting to read last years comments in the Isaac Smith thread.  Some reputable reports saying mfc went cold when he wanted 3 years given his age.  And some said he just wanted to cash in on his last few years.

Now to get him we need to go to 3 year terms to outbid others.

Unfortunately, we didn't get him and took Tomlinson for the wing role instead.  Now we are stuck with Tomlinson who can't play the postion he was recruited for, on very good coin for another 3 years at a time when our sal cap is very tight.

So, if they get Smith, does that support the view, that they think Baker is expendable? Or that merely comparably to Smith for the next two years, Smith out performs him, whilst Baker improves his consistency?

If we get him, I'd be telling Baker to shadow him for two years.  He could learn plenty about playing on a wing and then be ready to take over from him when Smith's contract comes to an end.

Though similar. I read that they where not happy with the possibility of Viney using them to get a better deal. Thought it wouldn't put it past them to show some interest to make us pay.

Good question.

I would have Langdon teach Baker the tricks of the trade in the same way May is teaching Rivers.  Hard to see Baker getting the game experience he needs if Smith keeps him out.

Heard that on radio.  Geelong is a club that doesn't talk of potential trades.  They will let the media speculate.  So for their CEO to publicly discuss Viney, another clubs VC, they would have been very confident of getting him.  They felt used.

Jesus I hate Geelong. They got their hyper priveleged nose out of joint because Viney stayed with us. Cry me a frikn river.  Unimaginable that a player , having had time to think, would choose to stick with his club rather than go to them. It must be they got used FMD. Hope Viney cuts them a new one next time we play.

Didn't you notice LH that Tommo was CHB in the last few rounds and made a very good fist  of it. He slso is versatile and cN play as back up ruck Not useless on the wing and go forward At times plus perform a lock down role in defence and add depth to our Club in doing so.

IMO he will be a good selection and valuable by the end of his 4 years without winning the BandF!

Geelong's CEO this week: “We’re in the market big time at the moment for Jeremy Cameron. He’s struggling with making a decision. He’s a loyal bloke.

That says to me they are pretty confident of getting him.  If Cameron doesn't go there every chance they will feel used again.  They understand the game.

Hard to feel sorry for Geelong in the trade department when the best player in the league fell into their lap at the end of 2015 and agreed to play for well ''unders''.

It seems pretty clear Jamie Elliott used MFC to up his offer at Collingwood last year.  It's reasonably common.

Welcome to the football world, Geelong. Same thing happened with us and Elliott last year. It happens. Get on with it.

Managers use all clubs to leverage player contracts.  Its their job.

That doesn't stop a club being aggrieved by it.  The further down the line they were for a signature the more aggrieved they feel.  That is fairly natural I would have thought.

Well the Cats CEO has said they are heavily into Cameron.

If Cameron stays at GWS, do they offer us more for Preuss, to get back at GWS?

I didn't say anything about Geelong "getting back at us".  That would be juvenile and stupid by them.  My posts referred to a report that they "felt used".

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session.
