LJ and Hibberd are best 22. Ignore LJ’s height he is quality on ground and in pressure just as much as In the air (maybe more so)

Jetta out for Hibberd or Lockhart (if Hibberd not ready)

Hunt or ANB for LJ

I would personally play Harmes over AVB but cant see them doing it.

I'd bring in Jackson, Hibberd and Lockhart.

If Jackson is fit, he plays. I understand that three talls hasn't worked well for us at times, but it's a very different look with two of those being Jackson and Brown, so I'd replace one of the smalls. You could make a case for Hunt, ANB and AVB. I've been critical of Spargo in the past, but he's done enough to warrant a spot (and so does Baker).

Hibberd is also in my best 22, so he comes in if fit. I think we should consider playing a legit small defender, so in that case it wouldn't be a swap for Jetta - probably Smith instead, who I'm not sure has a great defensive footy IQ; otherwise, it'd be Tomlinson given he's been playing as a tall defender.

I'd also look at swapping Lockhart for Jetta. I've been a fan of Jetta since he started playing down back, but I reckon he's been on the decline since 2019 and - particularly if Hibberd is playing - we can have Lockhart just playing a lockdown role.

Three changes might do it. I rate Harmes, but I think we've ruined his 2020 playing him down back, and it's a big ask to play a come back and play a different role, particularly if Melksham is playing as a defensive mid. I actually also rate Hannan, but has looked hampered by his knee lately and probably doesn't warrant a spot.

Not the UK.... in Europe so it is an hour better for me. Still Not a good time to knock the top off a bottle. Look around for a wine from Domaine Rouge Bleu. A red called Lunatique from the vineyard. Without a doubt it should be the MFC club drink for the name only at least.

i still have a few bottles of the 2011 to drink during the Freo/Bulldogs game if we are still alive.

Here's the list of wine names for 10 other clubs. I think Richmond is #2, Collingwood must be #3 and surely Essendon is #5.

Jordan Lewis. Hard, ruthless, experienced. Just having him out there made a difference and the players walk taller.

There are a range of other assets with Lewis. He knows the modern game and how to win. He is an exceptional communicator in football terms, and highly adaptable across the theories of the game. He showed this for years, honing his skills whilst he still could and when these began to wane at the time of his transfer to the MFC, he taught others, he organised onfield and off the field, he communicated. Pure talent. I'd love to see him replace Goodwin - ASAP. Would he bite at the hook?

Not sure if you can read much into it but in today's training gallery (picture 10/14) on clubs website there seemed to be 2 different squads. One with Goody talking to in what appeared to be the team to play this week and whilst you can't see them all Jackson was in it.

Only issue is I can't spot many of the defenders  - May, Lever, Hibbo, Salem, Nev, Rivers etc. are not in that photo, so maybe it was just the mids & forwards, so might give an clue but nothing definite either. Add those guys in and Harmes and it's a squad of around 24 which would be about right.

Depending on the weather I'd be tempted to go a little taller against the bombers, they've looked terrible against the taller forwards lately, Dixon and Hawkins have not just kicked a few but made them look nervous each time the ball went in. The Weid/LJ/TMac combo wasn't great early in the year but maybe with the more mobile Brown (and against his old team) this is worth a shot.

I'd be bringing in LJ, Hibberd and Lockhart while the outs are Hunt, Jetta (looked injured) and Baker (yes he just played his best game, but it was a toss up between him and AVB and AVBs continual pressure gets in over Baker's 2 opportunistic goals.)

Love Demonland ..

Goodwin vs Swans - too passive, vs GWS - too active.

Being active is good.    The concern is that he has to give basic positional direction to professional footballers to that degree.

Keep in mind that the coaching group can see the broad scope of the field far better than players on the ground. It's also possible that Goodwin is giving a new instruction which differs from the instructions he had previously given, such as at the most recent break between quarters, because the opposition may have changed their tactics.

Yes, the concern is on field leaders are not doing that.  Hence our problem of controlling games and making adjustments without the coach.

Cracking weather on the North Coast at present. Looking forward to riding to work on Mon/Tues 28, 31 deg.

Anyway, 60% 1-5mm and 24 deg on Sat at Broadbeach. 50% < 1mm tomorrow, 25.

I have absolutely no idea whether Goodwin can coach at training or is a nice guy or an [censored]    hole.

But I do know that watching the Demons play   I get mightily upset,  and I pay membership for that privilege .

I just hope that Goodwin gets involved with the Demons, and shows some of that emotional involvement,

During the play on game day.   And that its not "just" a job someone gave him a long contract to do, without any guarantee of success.

Can some one tell me who will turn up to play this week   Fuchia's   Or   DEMONS  !!

I get the reasoning; seems sound and strong, to me.

When do the teams get announced?

Who knows these days Cards, they used to be Thursday evening but it seems it is only the night before the game so for our game tomorrow but don’t be surprised if it is in ten minutes time.

Lol it used to be like clockwork od, sigh oh for simpler times.

I hate this new policy of releasing the teams the day before, at the very least I think they should be releasing a squad.

all teams this year have been announced the day prior to the game at about 6.20ish

Yeah, it's tonight at 6:20PM.

The Brown v Jackson selection this week is possibly the hardest selection call all year. I don't envy them.

When we got Jackson and Weid together early this year is when it all clicked. Our forward line has function best with that line up. So it's the obvious choice.

But Jackson's a first year kid, not that dangerous, not really a forward but really a ruck, coming off a long injury stint, so he's off the pace and no exposed form, while Brown played ok with 7 marks and 13 disposals last week, so leaving it unchanged is the obvious choice.

But Weid has been out of firm the last 3 weeks with only 16 disposals, 4 marks and 1 goal in that time. He needs a week off, so running with Jackson and Brown is the obvious choice.

Personally I think I'd roll the dice and go with Weid and Jackson because that's when it worked best, and we have struggled up forward since Jackson's injury. But I suspect no change is the safer choice.

In - Hibberd, Harmes and LJ if fit

Out - Nev, Melksham and Hunt

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
