Who is the guy in the red t-shirt?

Yeah was wondering the same thing. Must be close to the club to get in the winner’s circle!

It beggars belief that with a wet windy day in Cairns forecast, we dropped him for Preuss to play Preuss as a forward last week.

If you want to reduce the season down to one major mistake, that maybe is it.

Yeah we knew what the conditions were and picked a slow lumbering bloke. Browns mobility and work rate would have been really handy.

I still feel those losses to Freo and the Swans will be the ones that cost us finals.

Shame on you @dazzledavey and anyone else who wanted us to lose.

I might get upset with things at the club but always want my boys to win

Love Rivers and again Spargo showed his worth

I recall being in Palm Cove when we drafted Rivers and I started yelling in excitement, as he was the one I wanted for our last pick. People were staring at me.
I think I then asked you if you knew much about him as a kid, not about his footy. I said at the time that he could be the best of the 3 we got and pushed him on DL from that moment on. Yes he could be the best of the 3 and I am thrilled for him and the great game he played tonight. Pickett played his best game for us too and could have kicked 4.

A great win indeed.

But job is not done. Glad the players didn't over celebrate. Job is not done, as we need a few things to go our way.

On a personal note, I'm very proud of Charlie Spargo. Kid (yes he is only 20 years of age) cops it more then any other player on our list, and to see him play a significant role in tonight's win kudos to his extreme hard work off field.

Good on you DD, i agree with Charlie, he did what we needed him to do, kick goals and be on the move. Pickett was good as well or better at least because he was on teh move and did the basics.

Good to get back on the tier 1 grounds

Great win -  It was a tough week.

Could have done without that last GWS goal. Was looking forward to a stress free last 30 secs. Not to be.

The GWS stoppage work was first class again. We got schooled around the contest with the well organised outfit. We have to do some major work in this area as we were shown up again despite having a dominant ruckman.

Yep, the Spargo-trashing really needs to ease up around these parts. People have been unreasonably unkind about the kid at times. He’s developing nicely and has been a big factor in some of our wins this year.

Yes, but only in parts.

We won clearances 36-32 overall.

They turned our early dominance around through clearance work but we steadied in the fourth quarter.

Having said that, as Goodwin just said in the presser, we're learning to win in different ways. Tonight we were -23 in CPs and -13 in inside 50s. A bit like the Collingwood game, we didn't get the game played entirely on our terms, yet we won.

Ruthlessness = The Flame!   Keep wearing that fellas.  Putting the "Demon" back into Melbourne!

Rivers, 2 goals Baker 2 goals and  Spargo  2 goals  Kossi 1goal

58 possessions  and 7 goals  between them .  There is spark in our young boys. Great confidence builder.

A win is a win and if nothing else helps this group a lot in terms of next season. I'm very proud of the boys as I was after St Kilda because if you can prove you can grind out a win over quality opposition that has to count for something.

A real enjoyable game, didn't think it was the most skillful and both teams really honked it up at times but there were some amazing goals and some serious ticker. Everyone put their body on the line and weren't afraid to go when they had to. Was happy with the way Baker was used and expect the same next week, Petracca - 19 contested possessions! A ripping goal too. Steven May - This might be the whisky talking but give him AA now! Spargo continues to keep pressure on and has always had a decent set shot.

And then we get to a young man names Trent Rivers. Make no mistake, this kid was a huge reason why we won tonight. Hits targets for fun by foot and two clutch goals, but maybe the thing I loved most of all was his desire to get to that contest and punch with about 18 seconds left. The guy very much looks the part.

Langdon is without a doubt pickup of the year now. Nev's commitment in that contest late and taking one of the team really got us going I thought, he's been doing it his whole career and although he's in the twilight now you can really only remember things like this from him.

Don't get me wrong there were some negatives from the game but after a whole week of talking negatives I don't even feel like it! Enjoy the win everyone, it can't hurt!

Something interesting to note. Rivers post-game said the senior players were helping the kids defend. Then this from May:

Maybe, finally, some proper leadership?

Rivers and Spargo take a bow. Kids that showed class when needed.

Wasn't  the criticism of spargo is he can't  kick over 30 meters, that now should never be said about  him again.

[Censored] me.

Preuss lays one tackle (after which he tried to kick a goal he had no ability to kick and missed entirely) and gets credit.

What is it about Demonland and Preuss?

Agreed. Looked good down back when he was there too. Cool head. Underrated player imho.

Yes agree this bloke is a very versatile and mobile tall so much better value than TMac this season. Give him another year. Good game tonight, some critical efforts down back when we needed him.

Combined about 10 goals I think

There's a roughly 50-point difference between us and them (we're +58, they're +110).

So, I think, the combined margins of our win and their loss need to be around 50.

We'll know for sure when we play though, as St Kilda v GWS is first. If GWS wins, we'll know what we need.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
