Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

That's actually not a bad estimate but you haven't answered my question.

How do you know we cant afford it?

Well how about it is because we are among the poorest in the competition. Do you think we can?

I do know there is more than one way to skin a cat.

I’d say zero clubs could afford it in the current climate. No one knows what the Covid future holds for us let alone sporting entities where clubs in Aust are generally not billionaire owed like the US or UK. Even being billionaire owned most sports entities world wide are contracting, non playing  staff wise dramatically/looking to reduce as much cost from the business as possible.

So whos saying in the cost cutting redundancy couldn't be budgeted in to the out going costs?

My point was he assuned and had no idea.

There are multiple ways to end contracts.

What information is the 'we cannot afford to' opinion based on?

Actual finance? What is our current cash status?

Cost? What are the basic terma of the payout?

We can afford it. We have approx. $7m sitting in an investment account from the sale of the Leighoak club last year. This has given us a buffer to weather covid and meant we haven’t had to tap the AFL for a line of credit. If we dip into this fund to pay-out the coach then obviously that means less available to fund a new home base. Also, we don’t know yet whether the pay-out would come within the soft cap for next year. If it does then we would have to make cuts elsewhere to come within the cap.

The problem with Caro is she always has agendas and takes revenge on anyone critical of her.

That’s not journalism.

It’s frustrating because she obviously has some good sources but sorting her thin skinned bias vs. fact is hard.

I feel she now gets a free ride because she is a woman. Sure, she has had some unfair criticism because she’s a woman and no doubt had some really rough and unfair treatment in her career, but it also gets her protection in this politically correct time. Remember the “holding her under” the water comment and how that was pitched - if anything that was equality as blokey blokes would 100% make that comment about other blokes.

Anyway, the biggest problem for mine is her bold faced hypocrisy.

Tom Lynch runs about whacking people and acting like a [censored]. Hardwick defends violence in the field. Hardwick says real men don’t cry. Cotchin’s wife acts like a Prima Donna. Two Richmond players get sent home for going to the strippers and breaching COVID rules.

Caro. Caro. CARO! Where are you? Best she can come up with was how well Trent did, and how well Dimma and Brendan did, Brooke’s father circuses Richmond - discredit him - and naughty AFL tried to cover up Cotchin’s wife’s idiocy. After all that how can she try to make Richmond look perfect, and even with internal friction everyone Richmond is somehow right?

She is hopelessly compromised when it comes to Richmond, and bitter when it comes to some other clubs and people including ours.

Doesn’t mean there’s not some truth in what she writes, it’s annoying you have to sort through her opinion lens to try and work out fact from spin.

I repeat, this is not journalism.

I believe there was a a 3.5 mil cap exemption announced by the afl to restructure clubs. I can't find any info atm.

Thanks @Better days ahead. Once again a popular opinion defunct.

I was speaking to an influential MCC board member not too long ago and the distinct impression I got of the MCC's view of the MFC, or at least the view of that board member I spoke to, wasn't particularly complimentary. In fact, I'd call it dismissive.

Now that's good intel. Thanks for sharing A F.

Its a shame because PJ worked hard to improve that relationship. Perhaps Smith is a good option for President. Certainly has the experience and knowledge.

No worries mate. I'd just prepare we keep the off field administration stuff going, but we do need to work harder on the MCC relationship. They won't dismiss us, but they won't go out of their way to help us either as it stands. We get a grant from the MCC foundation and we use that as cashflow. I think we need to be nurturing this relationship a lot more to ensure we can get the most benefit from it.

This has been a trying year in so many ways, there are issues with Goodwin's coaching that have definitely created question marks but FFS we're into the last round with us in the finals chance. Doing anything destabilising to the admin, and footy department will only hurt the club. We need to go into next season with stability and focus, I know it sucks for a lot of people who want Goodwin gone but our best chance is to stick fat right now.

That's not to say there shouldn't be a strong review into the game style, player development, player contracts, recruiting, and assistant coaches. We need to decide who we are as a team and who we need to target to achieve our goals.

The MCC would surely prefer for us to just be a strong entity with mutual gains on both sides.

Great post.  Hits the nail on the head for me.

I don't even bother reading Caro's drival these days.

To me all she has ever written is trashy tabloid rumors an innuendo.  Seems to actually hate footy, because she never has anything positive to say.

Sure, I'm with you on this mate, but hypothetically, what would you say if the strong review suggested we needed to clear out all the assistants and bring in a new coach?

I'm all for stability, but to paraphrase/butcher Minsky, stability for stability's sake could lead to instability.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
