When was the last time we've seen a Demon hit the contest like that, burn off four opponents on the way out and connect up the field with the old one two finish for a goal?  The closest i've seen might be Harmes when he's on playing through the middle and breaking a tackle or two.  Usually the finish doesn't quite work out so well though!

This reminds me of his uncle Byron Pickett when he use to stream out of half back back in his North hey day... Would just burst through packs with ball in hand and set up play. No one could get near him...

He is a beauty and playing well for his first season in an average side.

speaking of comparisons, what about Lewis Jetta in his first season kicking 19 behinds before his first goal.  His skills are not bad now???

although frustrating, he will get his radar right soon and be a sharp shooter, I have not doubt

I can remember the big hits and some great run / evasive skills and finish Dazzle but your memory is better than mine here.  Young Kozzy seems to have a bit of extra toe.  Your name sake and the Wiz would be in this picture in their hey day.

Yep, Kozzy is showing the traits of an early Aaron Davey with some of his evasiveness.

Looks good in that #36

Looking great Dazzle.  Byron had that innate magic to slow everything down around him at times also and find space / time where many couldn't.  Kozzy did the same thing here but mostly just burning off with pace.  Made the others look like they were in slow motion.  If he starts bringing the extra tricks as well look out!  Could be VERY special with a few more pre-seasons under the belt / core strength / poise  ? finish.  Starts learning to read / time the crumb more often.  Early days though so best to keep a lid on it.

The more I watch that gif the more I am mesmerized by it.. he left the whole field in his wake lol

He made something out of absolutely nothing, and it started in the back half...  this kid is going to be a menace all over the ground.

Will this be another one to come back and bite us? Pickett getting a lazy 4 disposals with Serong getting 22 last week.

Yes Rivers was part of the trade however this smells like Kelly/Tyson all over again.

Would die for some class like Serong up forward right now, the game on Monday will be interesting

Whats wrong with both clubs getting it right!

Melbournes trades are looking as good as anyone over the last couple of years, so stop suggesting otherwise. You're just showing yourself up to be a dill. Or a troll. Or just an agitator who doesn't even believe his own posts.

Also Salem is turning into a gem as well. Having his best year to date. Taking responsibility finally. As you know but conveniently leave out we got Salem in the Kelly trade as well as Tyson. I'd have Salem over Kelly any day.

Exactly, not every trade/swap etc will have a loser.

Pickett has a mountain of work to do to become a complete player, but so do most 1st year players. Rarely do they come perfectly packaged and ready to go.

Goal kicking and involvement are two massive aspects of his game that he needs to work on. Goal kicking can be a simple fix. Involvement could be about playing more high half forward minutes, which he has done the last two weeks and looked much better in doing so.

I don't think Pickett solves our small forward crumbing issues, but he certainly has a role to play going forward.

I’m sure we all remember a young Jeff Farmer? Geez he did some retarded things while doing some amazing stuff. It was like his brain was 3 seconds ahead of the game. That worked out ok. I see the same here. He kicks straight the game was over at half time. He takes the mark and he won mark of the year. We have a diamond in the rough here and should be bloody grateful for the people that targeted him. We will see many a magic trick during this journey.

And what’s a Serong anyway? Some Fijian outfit?

im worried about pickett. he fumbles, he falls over, he goes too quick for his own good, he lacks composure, he can't read the play, his tackling is poor. Not sure he has the tools to make it. hope I'm wrong

Are you watching someone else the worst judging of a player I have ever seen, if he was that poor he would not have played more then 4 games, but of course you rate yourself as a greatest AFL coach never to have coached above junior level

comparing him to Liam Ryan is embarassing. Ryan has composure and actually takes his marks. he also keep his feet and has football IQ. Pickett has shown no footy IQ so far and you can't assume he will improve in this area.

Yes your right 1 is a man with years of senior experience at WAFL level, in his second AFL season and the other is a 18 year old in his first AFL season. You have NFI

Decided to check how Kossie ranks compared to other MFC players

Yes there are some areas he can improve on, but the below not bad for a first year player IMO

  • Contested Possessions - 10th
  • Ground ball Gets - 8th
  • F50 - Ground ball gets - 5th
  • Shots at goal - 5th
  • Score involvements - 11th
  • Tackles - 7th
  • Tackles inside 50 - 2nd
  • Goal assists - 5th
  • Pressure Acts - 6th

Now are these stats supporting of Kossie or an indictment on some of the other players aha.

Compare those to his peers that he was drafted with from his draft year..

I believe he would be high on a lot of those key stats...

Did a similar play in a training match in pre-seaon in Maroochydore  where he kicked the goal himself.. Was put up on the Melbourne website at the time.

He could've very easily ended up getting this one back, he worked extremely hard in that entire contest.

There aren’t many true forward pockets in the comp who get more than a dozen touches a game. Those who do usually play decent time in the guts also.

Even Tippa for the bombers has copped heat this year by people saying he doesn’t do enough and most touches he get are golden. Butler has gone missing at times along with Charlie Cameron.

It’s a hard role to play if you want to have decent looking stats.

Hes tracking along fine and you’d be silly to expect more from him in his first year.

In my mind, we have plugged in a quality forward pocket for the next 12 years

Had the crucial involvement in at least 2 goals

- the left foot kick to Hunt
- a handball out to space for another of the running goals

Don't worry about the stats, when we get a midfield with vision and reliable contested forwards he'll be right as rain.

Would love to see the stats on his metres covered.

I feel like the last two weeks he's been running up the ground more, both applying pressure in the forward half but going beyond and getting back to help the mids defend. Then using his pace to make an option on transition.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
