According to channel 7 Gawn no certainty and Max King is going to be rested.

Who ever replaces King will resurrect their career.

If Maxy is not 110% then for the love of god DONT PLAY HIM. Look what happened when he played against the crows, he hasn’t been seen since.

unrelated injuries tho

more similar to the way he came back in rd 1 where he looked seriously underdone

if it's a pcl then he definitely shouldn't be playing

U could tell his shoulder was bothering him and he shouldn’t have been playing IMO. The knee injury was icing in the cake.

The problem was that there was so much pressure to win the game that it affected the decision to play Gawn imo. He should have never played and it shouldnt happen again.

He's definitely not 100%, let alone 110%. Get the feeling he'll play though.

Just because he has tape on his knee doesn’t mean he is not ready to go

King is a big out. 18 goals this year.

our defence will be able to set up better now

Saints dont have much depth in the big forward department either.

Membrey has killed us every time.

Listening to Alan Richardson on Talking Point, he mentions that we'll look at bringing in players with a bit of run and carry.

Hunt? Baker? C Wagner?

Baker the only one there that fits that description.  Hunt and Wagner both useless.

Would love to see Baker, Rivers, Bennell and Bedford all come in.

What has happened to Bedford?

Does Hannan have much of a tank? He has some serious wheels, would love to see him tag Hill, I like the ball in his hands as well

In that case can't see Jones coming back in

BENNELL RIVERS ???

Unless they bring him in for AVB.  Not so much for speed of course, more from a form perspective in terms of getting to the right places, getting involved in link up.  Chunk can also kick the odd goal occasionally whereas Vanders doesn't.

If Bennell had a defensive / intercept side i'd be bringing him straight in for AVB.  Might be worth a look for a managed Kozzie?

Rivers is a must in for Sparrow so Harmes can go back to his preferred role running with Steele in the middle / and pushing forward for the odd mark/goal & attacking chain work in the forward half which will also help keep the Saints honest.

Bringing Harmes into the mid also allows Viney to play more time as a pressure forward which we will need in this match.  Something that was sadly missing last week from the smalls inside 50 who were found wanting.

Had to look twice at the photo Lord, thought for a minute u forgot what Gawn looked like then I had a closer look and saw the third leg.

Very good spotting mate.

Getting back to my point if he is not right don’t play him. He is to valuable to us.

RE: That Richo interview, I don’t think his Saints IP is going to be much use this week. I’d say Ratten would be doing the opposite to what Richo taught the players considering how well they are going now.

I thought nev was a shoe in to be selected, having grown a leg.

But I think it is. We over rate our list, thinking they are better than they really are. There is a reason we cannot beat good sides, they are just better than we are. You can’t make silk purse out of a sows ears

I can buy that if it weren't for Oliver, Petracca, Viney, May, Lever, Salem, Harmes, Fritsch, et al

We have enough talent - I think we let our coaches off the hook with that - I have better teams out of less talent.

And lastly, that 3rd quarter against the WB does not follow the we are not good enough viewpoint - we were fine up until then - and then the wheels came off.

You don't suddenly lose talent and skill over a half time break...

i respectfully disagree. Part of being good is being consistent. Too many of our players are not consistent whether thats year to year, week to week, or even disposal to disposal. Yes those players you mention can reach fabulous heights but by and large its not in a consistent and dependable manner (id say clarry, gawn may exceptions).   Coaching obviously is meant to address some of this but at some point yea, you just have to admit maybe this is just the player they will always be. Ie not consistently good.

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice?
