Special shout out to Langdon for attempting not 1 but 2 handball receives from out of bounds on the wing.

Thoroughly entertaining, haven’t laughed that heartily on a football related action in a long time. Loving him in the side.

A couple of things of note there.

He's definitely going with the new AFL commentary buzz phrase 'creating width'.

...and we've been crying out for a good outside mid, and you couldn't get any more outside than that.

On a more serious note, I love what he brings...

The kid just doesn't stop running and you can see he enjoys his footy.

Also, to run against the grain here.

I know he made a couple of mistakes but I thought Harmes was ok.

He seems to be settling into the HB role in tandem with Salem.

He's only a game or so off a real break out in the position.

Ok, we can twist any number, lets talk percentage of centre bounce attendance not numbers.  So you start with 4 then an additional centre bounce for every goal.  I reckon the amount of goals kicked over the last 3 weeks will be higher than rounds 1 to 9

Fair point.

Nice little read on the game.

MELBOURNE V COLLINGWOOD – THE BIG MONGREL QUESTIONS

Don't totally agree with it all and the writer seems to think Tomlinson is playing on a wing or at half back, but interesting and well written insight nevertheless. Spot on about Clarry. Glad there's a bit of respect there for him. And telling, the regard for AVB too.

They were both from Nathan Jones weren't they? He had a bit more time and needed to hold the ball to give Langdon time to get inbounds.

I had forgotten about the first one and had a serious case of Dejavu later in the game...

Tom Sparrow, Melbourne, has been charged with Engaging in Rough Conduct against Darcy Cameron, Collingwood, during the second quarter of the Round 12 match between Melbourne and Collingwood, played at the Gabba on Saturday August 15.
In summary he can accept a $1500 sanction with an early plea.

Charlie Spargo, Melbourne, has been charged with Rough Conduct (Dangerous Tackle) against John Noble, Collingwood, during the third quarter of the Round 12 match between Melbourne and Collingwood, played at the Gabba on Saturday August 15.
In summary he can accept a $1000 sanction with an early plea.

As in a game a few weeks ago it seems it is our guys who are getting fines and not the other team.  Takes two to tango, Mr MRO

But I do like their feistiness!

Did anyone see either of these occur?

I feel like sometimes these just come up out of nowhere.

I wish they would time stamp the incidents so you could go and look them up.
I remember seeing one tackle in the game that could have been dangerous as I remember wondering if it was going to be a free kick. It wasn't but I cant remember who the tackler was, maybe it was Spargo

Yes, or even better provide a clip of the incident.

I'd like to know if there was a free kick paid for Spargo's Dangerous Tackle. If it wasn't paid/deemed dangerous on the night, not sure how it can be deemed dangerous two days later.

Because umpires miss things all the time, like striking off the ball - they still get reprimanded after the fact when the games reviewed

Just finished watching the replay.

Honestly, that was one of the better games I've seen Nathan Jones play since the Swans game last year where he snagged three. He only had the 16 touches on Saturday, but its great to see him back and contributing to the side. Not sure whether he goes on and plays in 2021 yet, but you can't deny he's playing his role quite nicely at the moment.

Also, this play was vintage Jones.

Coaches votes are in:

Ed Langdon (MELB)
Clayton Oliver (MELB)
Angus Brayshaw (MELB)
Christian Petracca (MELB)
3  Steele Sidebottom (COLL)
3 Taylor Adams (COLL)
2 Charlie Spargo (MELB)

WOW.  Big difference in view of the coaches!  Best guess split:
5/1, 5/1, 4/2 for either Langdon/Oliver/Brayshaw
4 for Petracca
3 for Sidebottom
3 for Adams
2 for Spargo
Langdon, Oliver and Brayshaw the only ones to get votes from both coaches.  But coaches had a very different view on who was best or second best on the ground.  Or 3rd best or 4th best or 5th best...

Rapt for Langdon and Spargo to be among the votes.

Petracca goes out to a clear second on the leaderboard with a game less.
75  Lachie Neale BL
54 Christian Petracca MELB
47 Travis Boak PORT
44 Taylor Adams COLL
44 Jack Steele

...also on the leaderboard is:

11th Oliver

16th Viney

17th Brayshaw

Quite amazing to have our 3 or our 4 midfielders in the top 20.  And Max would be around 25-30 but he has missed a few games.

Edit:  17th is Andrew Brayshaw

Interesting stat -

our bottom 5 disposal players (tmac, sparrow, weid, spargo, kozzie) each only got 8 or less disposals

but

all forwards, all kicked goals for a combined total of 8 goals being 50% of all our goals and 2 more than the whole filth team

not bad for bottom 5

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
