6. Langdon - best game for the club to date. In terms of what he is meant to do there was no-one better.

4. May

3. Petracca

2. Melksham - 8 inside 50s (1st), 407 metres gained (2nd), 2 goals, 6 score involvements. That’s a fair return.

6. Langdon - exciting to discover more and more what a gun we have in this fella. Get that kicking a little better and we have a legit star

5. Oliver - Just keeps getting better. I think Brayshaw and him connect far better than he and Viney do. Nothing against Viney. You cannot fault his commitment to the ball, but he almost has a "me vs the world' aspect to his game that isn't easy to read and doesn't always benefit those around him. On other occasions though, you're so glad to have him busting through

4. Brayshaw - such a relief to see the colour come back to his face. Thought we'd lost him for a while there

3. Trac - Not his best game, but his average games are still a big asset, which is a  true hallmark of a star player

2. Spargo - would have put him at the top if his second half was like his first!

1. Preuss - just a really impressive season debut. You can tell by his fitness and ruck-craft that he's been a really committed player away from the action. Players deserve more credit for this.

... and I tipped this. Trac and Clarrie clearing away from Maxy in his absence.

Really interesting to read through the votes this week. Very little love for defenders other than May, which makes me wonder whether that's because the forwards and the midfielders did their job or because, like umpires with Brownlow voting, we (me included) get seduced by the flashier players? Anyway, I know they're late, but here are my votes:

6. Oliver

5. Langdon

4. Brayshaw

3. May

2. Petracca

1. Hibberd

Others in contention for that final vote included Salem, Weideman, VandenBerg and Viney. It's not like I voted alphabetically stopping at P. Salem's stats are somewhat inflated by the dead time kick-to-kick in the last few minutes of the game, but apart from that he provided excellent linking up between defence and the wing; Weideman provided a contest every time the ball got near and gave the midfielders someone to target; vandenBerg provided excellent pressure but again let his game down with some poor disposal and I just couldn't squeeze Viney in.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • GAMEDAY: Gold Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons are back at the MCG and have a massive challenge ahead of them as they take on Premiership contender the Gold Coast Suns. What do you want to see from the Dees today?

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
