I'm curious as to how we will approach player movement this offseason. We traded out of this years first round due to the compromised nature of it so I feel we will try to recruit players via trade and/or free agency. If we trade out both McDonalds as mooted, I can't imagine we will be keen on acquiring picks unless its used for players or possible investment in future picks.

On the flip side to this, would Taylor and co feel confident in landing quality players at later picks given the reduced exposure may leave "round 1 quality" kids to slide?  And if so, could that lead to small pick upgrades with clubs looking to trade down to accrue points? Factor in a possibly reduction in list sizes and, salary cap restraints and the number of academy/NGA selections, I think we may be presented with some unique opportunities.

Please be true. Essendon could probably accommodate both.

Kind of cringeworthy and a 'high maintenance' red flag for opposition, that they've requested at the same time. (if true)

I would let Jacko take the ruck and bring in Brown as the 3rd tall with Weid and Petty.

Agree, he would compete and it’s not like Max has given us any great advantage in 2020

Barrett suggesting disgruntlement towards the club from Hurley and Hooker too. You have to wonder if one of them could be squeezed out and involved in a McDonald trade. Hurley would be a decent 2nd tall in defense to plug in for a couple of years, and the club was vocal about chasing him in the past. Either way, let's get Saad.

I don't think we need to change the backline Tomlinson at CHB has been good I've been happy with him maybe Hore in for Smith that would be it we need a wingman and small forward and maybe a tall forward if Petty can't get out on the park.

Laughable by Oscar.

More chance he'll have to fill out a delisted free agency form then get a trade..

Happy to get rid of both.

Just elaborating a little further, TMac has, in no uncertain terms, requested to be traded out of MFC for a number of reasons that are plain to see.

OMac on the other hand and somewhat seperate from TMac, is keen to gauge what if/any interest exists for his services and at this stage is on more of a fishing expedition than anything else.

Zac Merrett from Essendon.. i reckon its worth having a chat. Worked with Goody at Essendon and played with Hibberd and Melksham as well.

A few senior players not happy at Essendon regarding direction of the club.

The problem for Tom IF he wants to be traded, and it's a big if, is that he is half the player he used to be and that he's on a fairly expensive contract.  What club out there would take him on?  It's not as if he kicked 30 goals this year, then got dropped and wanted to move on.  He didn't really play well in any game this season so I can't see clubs knocking down our door.

Would the Kangas do it for Polec?  I'm not that keen on Polec but it's more a suggestion that we would probably need to take back a contract from another team to make it work.

It will be similar to the Hannebery trade.  Injury history, in-contract (3 years to go), in and out of the side and was traded for peanuts.  The pick swaps made it look a  goodish deal but it was peanuts for a player with his honours:  The Swans have traded Hannebery and pick 28 to the Saints, and received pick 39 and St Kilda's 2019 second-round pick in return.  ie effectively a late 2nd round pick but the Swans got his $800,000k salary off their books.

Not saying we will get the equivalent of a late 2nd rnd pick, just that the club will probably be happy to get TMac's salary off the books.

That sounds about right.  If getting Tom off the books allowed us to pursue a different player, or allowed us some more wiggle room in re-signing some of our stars, then I'm not too fussed what we get in return.

Would his salary off the books allow us to offer someone like Mihocek a decent deal to switch from the Pies?  He would be a great addition to the Weid/Jackson combo.

TMac is said to be be on around $650-$750.  If the scuttlebutt is right the club is happy for him to go.  I'd guess it sees him gone as a way to find the money for a top line player.  I'm not tracking who is available but I would imagine that sort of money would get us a Mihocek, Saad, Polec or similar.

It would be good if we can get a TMac himself into such a trade so the pick we give up is a bit less.

Of the likely targets we might pick up, the talk has been about a mature big bodied key forward.  Like they grow on trees!  what are the thoughts about (just brainstorming - not recommending):

- Paddy McCartin

- Perryman

- Daniher (wont get him)

- Majak Daw (as was suggested in some article recently)

- Darcy Moore (as a fwd)

- Sam Day

- Carlton - McKay, Curnow or Casboult

  • Would be very surprised if McCartin plays ANY form of football again, let alone AFL (concussion issues).
  • Can't see Carlton letting go of McKay or Curnow, no idea re Casboult.

With a few father sons, zones and academy picks I can see is getting in some 2nd rounders for TMac, Preuss and our current 2nd rounder and packaging them up to teams looking for points and getting in a good 1st rd pick.

What I like with Tomlinson playing the CHB role is that he is a big body that is mobile and has a half decent kick.

KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti
