Not sure why people are questioning Preuss, he has barely played any/no footy this season (injury) and was picked up on the list before Jackson was, so once they brought in Jackson, it was clear doors for Preuss.

Yeah, Tom absolutely seems like a replacement for Max, but who are Tomlinson, Lever and May going to play on? I don't think we need the extra tall. We've done this with selection before and sides smash us on the outside.

Looking at their side, they will have Larkey and Daw forward, with McKay, Tarrant and Walker down back.

That goes with May and Lever as the talls (and possibly Tomlinson, although he is named on a wing) down back, with Jackson and Weideman down forward.

McDonald goes with Goldstein in the ruck.

I don't think we look too bad when compared to who they have named, however the proof will be in the pudding.

Preuss off to Sydney for Papley

I wonder how Preuss is taking this. Basically came to the club knowing he’d be the number two man and is now number 3 at best.

I’m genuinely shocked at Spargo. I hope he goes well and proves me wrong but he’s shown bugger all over the last season and a half. I really don’t know what he brings.

Where the bloody hell is Hunt? At least he has pace and can take a grab.

Has Preuss played a scratch match yet?

If not, I’m assuming that’s the reason he didn’t get selected.

I’ll rate this win if we can get the job done. North have always caused us problems, we have 2 key outs and the win will get us a half game out of the 8.

How the heck does Bedford not get a game over spargo. I just can't get my head around that at all.

Jordan and Nev also not getting in to the team is bewildering.

Ngl, this game will be career defining for spargs.

I just can't believe they would drop a quality player like Bennell for a spud like Spargo.

I think TMac has to play first ruck, with occasional spell up forward. The TMac/Weideman combination doesn’t work very well, and Jackson/Weid look more comfortable together.

As for Spargo, well, you’d think he’s on borrowed time at the moment: a bit too FIGJAM for mine, but hopefully he proves me wrong!

Goldstein could get a world record for hitouts.  Our mids will have to be smart.

We have Jackson

Where are we going to get the first rounder we'd have to throw in?

Pruess is worth very little, and the fact he cant get a game doesnt help

It will have to be Jackson Tommy will get smashed in the ruck they have to go with the Tommy\Weid combo

I agree, but I would imagine he is in Queensland, not in Adelaide.

He also wouldn't have played any recent scratch matches, given they were locked down in NSW.

Well Preuss is never going to get a game then if not this week. Some smart recruiting.

Good to see they have brought in Spargo to assist Tmac in the ruck.....

FMD I will watch with interest!

So we play Max when clearly unfit last week vs Adelaide when he should have taken the week of . Now vs Goldstein a very good ruckman and also Vs Norf Who have beaten us in 18 out of 19.

I hope this works SIMON

SPARGO ?? iF Hunt, Bedford, Jordon or Rivers aint better?? I dont know anything about footy!  As I said Simon Heats on you! This better work!

Future first rounder. Preuss is playing for the wrong club he never should have come to us. Geelong, Richmond, Carlton, Power, Essendon and Sydney would all love him in the side.

Particularly against Brisbane and Port the other teams showed what happens when your ball winners simply want to win the clearance more. Looking for Petracca, Oliver, Brayshaw, Harmes, and co to be hungry for the first, second and third contests.

According to the North fans Goldy looked tired last week, Jackson and TMac (maybe Tomlinson at times?) will need to try to be more mobile and agile than him.

He picked up an AFL footy for the first time when he was 18, unfortunately, he was never going to amass to much.

Possibly, but then McDonald seems like a direct replacement for Max, and the other four inclusions aren't tall players.  So we've gone like for like there.  I'd say McDonald and Jackson will do the majority of the ruck work, with Weid to stay forward.  It's not really any different to last week.

I don’t know whether u saw the Kansas play the cats a couple of days ago but Goldstein wasn’t a major influence against Blicavs and Stanley. I don’t think it’ll be a bad thing with Tmac and Jackson as our rucks. At least the opposition won’t be able to shark off Gawn

No Gawn and Viney makes it hard. Ugly loss coming up. Those two have done so much work for us this season

Spargo is a gun...... that will shoot Simon in the foot.

As a side point, this gives Brayshaw clear run at lots of minutes in the guts. A good chance for him to make a statement.

We’ve known for a long time that Spargo is a favourite of the coach and selection committee (and Gawn seemingly ?). He has to take this chance with both hands.

Angus Brayshaw Cometh the man

His big chance tomorrow

Add Jackson to that he has to play the game of his life.

First thought is these look like the right changes. There's a couple I wouldn't have in our best 22 but we're pretty limited for choice and the balance looks right.

This upcoming off-season is massive. We're still at least two genuine pressure small forwards short, especially with our game style.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
