As others have mentioned, I think Tomlinson will play back. Lever and May are better with another tall. Maybe as Tomlinson hasn’t been playing amazing football on the wing, we will give him a crack in a key post down back? He has done it at GWS for a period of time I believe.

I am actually happy to see ANB back in the side. Even though he sometimes fumbles and isn’t the best kick on occasions, he seems to get to the right places, runs hard and can find the ball.
AVB back in to hunt and tackle.

Tomlinson played as a key defender for Giants in 2016-1st half 2018 seasons.  Then played CHF and wing in late 2018.  He is a utility.  Might see him at CHB. Worth the trial.  Cannot have Lever as 2nd tall. Played MUCH BETTER as 3rd tall and intercept.  Goody - ??

Dropping Oscar doesn’t make sense to me, thought with him the team it allowed May and Lever to play their roles a lot better

Was about to write the same thing....Is Tomlinson supposed to drift back into a tall defensive role?

Oscar has been dropped because he let a player of only a few games experience, Georgiades, wipe the floor with him. Mind you, Goodwin needs a slap for a poor matchup. His reaction time is so slow that he can only play against Gorillas. He should only get a game if there is an obvious opponent.

Thought Jones offered little to no leadership. A bit of a worry if Goody is too scared to drop him.

Of course he’s not too scared to drop him, they’re thinking he played his role or they’re nursing him as close to 300 as possible.

So they’ve earmarked this for their one win for the season?

Retain as much trade value as possible?

Yep. And imagine if someone like ANB, Spargo, Hunt etc had put in 2 games like Harmes last 2...

Clearly a stronger Crows team. They waved the white flag v Roos. Set themselves to win v Dees

There's been a fair bit of talk about not having enough talls in the side.

I presume that Hibbert will be expected to play on a tall.

As bad as Hannan has been I would've rather kept him in the side over Brayshaw. At least Hannan bobs up every 3 or 4 games with a couple of goals, Brayshaw has done nothing for a year and a half

Hannan was great the couple of games before, crunching tackles, kicking goals, was looking a ripper, but his last 2 weeks have been quiet and he's provided little pressure. In saying that though, Melksham is not helping in that area either, he's looking a selfish player this year. Barely tackles, doesn't go when it's his turn, doesn't chase, seen him give up on a ton of contests, plus he just looks straight for goal whenever he gets it.

Probably fair enough Hannan gets dropped, but Melksham and Brayshaw have been just as bad or worse for longer. The inconsistency is staggering. This is an outward example of the rumours of cliques and favourites we hear IMO.

Lets say there is a good reason why they chose to drop Oscar (to be fair he was poor last week).

The problem is you change backline at your peril.

And of course we should win. Lets say we do. Is that proof the new system works against a side who has not won a game and just made 8 changes?

And so do they keep their new back line for the game against the roos? And risk it being exposed by a half decent AFL team? Let's say it is. What do they then do against the pies?

And goody predicted speed would dominate after the covid break. So picked a quick team. He was wrong.

But incredibly football is getting quicker in the last couple of rounds and scores are creeping up. So he may be proved correct.

And he then selects a deadly slow team, keeping his two slowest players, who are both completely out of form, and forced to play out of position - on the wing where there lack of pace is exposed. And picks Tomlinson who is also slow.

Just bizarre.

Makes perfect sense to me!! A young kid rang rings around him>> Forget this Bulltisih about allowing Lever to play intercept( Another Flawed policy at MFC) Oscars primary role is still to stop an opponent! Which clearly he didn't do!

Coz as we all know Goody has all the answers!

Well I hope Oscar is out for this game because he will be needed to help curb Brown's influence  against the Roos.

We have a habit of of letting important opposition players  return to form.

Like our picks  Vanders and  Bennell,   good Quality ins.

Weather forecast as fine, so no reason to play small down back.  Maybe we didn’t expect them to play all the talls?  8 changes is a heck of a lot.

we Will will this if we win the contest and dominate forward half time.  The midfield should be one of the best in the comp, but they too often play panicked and slow under pressure.

watch out for Max to ruck then play back half, ie Chb.  Tommo to do midfield ruck, Jacko forward 50.

Let’s see which side turns up.

At least Brayshaw gets in there and has a go where Hannan prefers to play 10 rows back in the stands.

I imagine Gawn will have to play along half back a lot with O Mac out.

Crows missing: Sloane, B Crouch, Milera, Stengle, Hartigan

We will smash them in the middle if we turn up. we just need to lower our eyes

The bar was very low last week, he had 8 kicks 5 clangers and gets pushed off the ball way to easy, no second efforts and always blame others when he gets beaten

The backline was, by far, the best part of our side last week. Lever was a stand-out part of that.

Rest of your post is anti-Lever biased guff.

Agree re: Hannan.

In recent weeks I've seen footage of Melksham giving huddle speeches and revving up the kids. I've read somewhere that he's a leader of sorts and I think that is part of why he's kept his spot. He's also improved the last few weeks, to be fair. He should have been dropped a month ago though.

Melksham earlier this year, and Harmes/Brayshaw right now, are the biggest examples of favouritism we're seeing. In all three instances, we've seen players woefully out of form being persisted with. TMac, OMac, ANB, Hunt, Smith, Bennell, Jetta and Hibberd have all been dropped this year after having had fewer chances to perform than those three.

I don't know if it's cliques, it could simply be Goodwin's stubbornness on show: doubling down on his method, and therefore the players he sees as "core", because he thinks that's the only way out and/or doesn't know any different.

I can’t see Weid and Jackson beating Talia and Doedee. I hope they effectively bring the ball to ground and ANB lays at least 20 tackles.

i can see why they dropped OMac after last week, but I thought he’d be a good matchup on Lynch.

i can’t see us kicking a bag, but we should win unconvincingly.

Keep an eye out for Harry Schoenberg.  Not saying he'll be a world beater this early but did look a likely prospect and smart ball distributor at u18 level.

No doubt he's probably a few seasons away from impacting but could be a very nice player at some point.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
