Pickett Fined for Rough Tackle

Featured Replies

I thought it was a last quarter sling tackle in the forward pocket

He was penalised twice with kicks for "dangerous tackles". Both ridiculous.

Rubbish. AFL need to get their head out of their [censored].

That article implies it was for the first, straight on, one? I could half understand if it was the sling in the last quarter, but if it's that first one that is an absolute disgrace.

Yep, it refers to the one in the second quarter where Pickett goes straight into the front of a Lion player.

Disgrace from the MRO. Would love the club to challenge it but it's not worth the money.

I think the 2nd one which he has been fined for was dangerous and he was very lucky not to knock him out.

The first one on the mid wing was a horrible decision

What a load of horse [censored].

I only remember 1 and it was a hard, uncompromising and bone jarring tackle.

FFS this ain’t netball. (That’s basically what I screamed out when a free was given)

Bloody pathetic.

If the club is not going to challenge it then they need to pay the fine for Kozzie.

...and McStay walks??!

Garbage.

So much for that r sole Gerard Healy saying Nev “led with his head”. Clearly McStay “led with his elbow”.

This is the side of Pickett that I don't want them to dumb down.  I hope that, even with the fine, he doesn't change the way he plays in the coming weeks.  I want him to hunt the opposition and provide that 'implied pressure' week in, week out.

The fine is a joke, and I hope the club tells him as much.

Not sure if these vids work but both tackles were not dangerous in my opinion. Just the usual crap from biased, corrupt umpires:

Tackle 1 - 3rd quarter (I assume this was the one that copped the fine):

Tackle 2 - 4th quarter:

It was the sling tackle in the last quarter. The 3rd quarter was deemed a spear tackle.

Hilarious (and a f*cking joke) if that is the case

That spear tackle was absolutely a joke. The sling was more about consistency. Viney was slung similarly earlier in the game and got nadda.

Spear tackle?!!! This is a spear tackle:

So the outcome has no relevance any more? A guy who uses his momentum (all 70kg and 171cm) brings down a 90kg and 193cm player and it is somehow deemed dangerous? The Brisbane player was stunned.... he got a free!! The more I see the less I like this game and where it's headed.

Congrats to Goodwin tonight for defending our players on AFL 360... not!  Goodwin better be saying other things behind closed doors because players can sense BS!

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
