Hunt can trick the brain ( mine at least) .  All it takes is several ball-bouncing runs along the wing and one can go home thinking " this lad is a future star " . Next day , reading his full stats -  reality hits . The last two rounds he has had five and four disposals respectively .

I think sadly Jayden is the barometer of the team selection quality. A gifted athlete but cant hit a target. When he's in it sends a message in the wrong way.  I was at Adelaide Oval when he took that hit a few years ago and hope he will be OK long term.

My worry is Weid will come in and show everyone why he hasn't been selected.

I think we'll get the "W" this week.

GC are one of the rare sides in the comp we can actually beat and hopefully they'll struggle a little without Rowell.

If we get done, I don't know where go from here and where our next win will come from.

Well he won't get a possession if they kick it away from him, as is our style.

Here is a hypothetical. If Weid got one out and the ball was kicked to him 10 times, could we assume he might get it 4 times and have 4 shots at goal. Could we assume that maybe 2 would be spoils and thereby give our small forwards an opportunity and say he would be outmarked 4 times. That would give us at least a 50% chance of scoring from inside F50 entries. We are currently scoring at less than 25%.

It's pretty simple really. Play an extra tall forward. Stop the play on at all costs mantra, giving a bit longer to make decisions and execute proper, or at least reasonable disposal and we are a better side.

It is amazing the effect of a first year player on that side.

swing the changes, bring it back to basics with targets and quality delivery:

1. Weideman and Brown in for Hunt and Melksham (taller, reliable marks, better targets)

2. OMac for Smith (Reluctantly)

3. Bennell for AVB - AVB will be back later

4. Jetta for Lockhart - Like Lockhart but he needs to improve his skills

5. Jones for Rivers - Rivers is the future but he needs to earn his spot.

Yeah. Thought long about that position. For me it all gets back to playing players in positions they have excelled in in a structure that allowed them to excel. Was a toss up for me between ANB and Salem on the bench. Would not mind either

I really would like to see Salem given a go in the middle/wing/half forward. His kicks coming out of defence are nice but they would be better going inside 50. A starting midfield of Oliver, Petracca and Salem looks more balanced to me on paper than Oliver, Petracca, Viney. Viney and Harmes can rotate in there with Petracca resting forward when required.

Have you watched Gold Coast this year? Their pressure around the contest is great, they have some elite users across the field and some quality up forward in King and Sexton. Collins will towel up TMac. I can't believe we are favourites, Gold Coast should win comfortably even without Rowell.

Lots of people complain about Salem's 'dinky' short kicks. They would be absolute gold if they were coming inside 50 to open players 40 out.

I agree that GC are a bit underrated here, but some context is important. Their three wins were against Adelaide, Fremantle, and the horrendously out of form West Coast. And they were all at home on the Gold Coast.

I would definitely say they are favourites against us but I wouldn't be writing us off, or suggesting they should win "comfortably".

Totally agree Dr.

I have watched their games since the restart and I would be shocked if we won.

They are a far cry what they used to be like unlike us unfortunately.

I have seen GC and they were impressive in the WC and Adelaide games, but ordinary to poor in their other 3 games.

And as you pointed out they have a stack of elite users.

But, the game is on neutral territory at a venue where GC have been smacked for the last 5 years. The club should be not accepting anything less than a win from its players and coach.

We certainly have to try an extra tall forward. I hope whatever they try succeeds.

We will win this wee

Think we will win this one, question is will it be something we can launch from or just another band aid?

I've been speaking to happy Garry Baker avatar. I've told him that he should wipe the smile of his face as i'm far from happy.

Since reverting to him far from turning things around we have barely score a goal, the dees have been forced interstate and the state has gone into a six week lock down.

He just smiled. And said, relax, the suns will play attacking football and as a young team learning their system won'y have either the interest or ability to play the sort of tempo football we seemingly can't respond to.  Which will suit us perfectly and we will win - and win well.

Garry also noted that their wins have been on their home deck against  teams who have played poorly, they are traveling two weeks in a row, coming off a bruising encounter and their new talisman is out for the season.

Garry recommended to put a good solid bet on over the dees to win by over 24.5 points.

I asked him what the impact of the possible thunderstorm would be on our chances. He said, relax the game will be played in perfect conditions and with ta civilized 6pm start demonlanders will have a top, if not somewhat blurry Saturday night

one positive is that we don't have the "squad selection" tonight

At least we can read the tea leaves on the emergency selections.

I'm expecting a win by hopefully more than 20 points. A close win or a loss won't get my minuscule hopes up at all.

Foxtel don't publish ratings but my guess is that this game may set a new low in the ratings.

We are around four hours from fans finally agreeing with selection, or many of us losing the absolute plot if the changes aren't ones we agree with.

I've got the popcorn ready.

Imagine if it's 0 changes. There wouldn't be enough popcorn on earth for that show

Lots of people were pretty happy to see Smith and AVB in the side initially. Now we hear they are cooked and should never have been selected.

Even see some calls for perennial whipping boy OMac to come back!  ?

Some great insights here from everyone. Mine are,

Our list is average.

The "Brand" game plan is not executable with the personnel, low IQ's can't make quick correct decisions

LOCKHART MAY LEVER

BRAYSHAW SMITH HIBBERD

HARMES OLIVER LANGDON

FRITSCH WEIDEMAN BENNELL

BEDFORD TMAC HANNAN

GAWN PETRACCA SALEM

JONES SPARROW ANB RIVERS

IN: WEIDEMAN, SPARROW, BENNELL, JONES, ANB, BEDFORD (i'm not sure all got on plane)

OUT: VANDENBERG, VINEY, MELKSHAM, HUNT, TOMLINSON, PICKETT

When we continue to play so badly it is hardly surprising that people get up set with no changes or small changes

Rankine to debut...

Top Rankine

Hoping to see some of the old firm back such as Jetta and Jones. Blokes that now how to kick a footy, as well as Bennell.

  • POSTGAME: Sydney

The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.

  • CASEY: Northern Bullants

The Casey Demons travelled to a windy Cramer Street, Preston yesterday and blew the Northern Bullants off the ground for three quarters before shutting up shop in the final term, coasting to a much-needed 71-point victory after leading by almost 15 goals at one stage. It was a pleasing performance that revived the Demons’ prospects for the 2025 season but, at the same time, very little can be taken from the game because of the weak opposition. These days, the Bullants are little more than road kill. The once proud club, situated behind the Preston Market in a now culturally diverse area, is currently facing significant financial and on-field challenges, having failed to secure a win to date in 2025.

  • GAMEDAY: Sydney

It’s Game Day, and the Demons have a golden opportunity to build on last week’s stirring win by toppling Sydney at the MCG. A victory today would keep them firmly in the hunt for a finals spot and help them stay in touch with the pack chasing a place in the Top 8. Can the Dees make it two in a row and bring down the Swans?
