I’ve been to Blacktown once but never to the footy. It’s not the choice of a great escape.  Might have to quarantine at the Best Western motel.

Dees need to petition a move to Queensland for rounds 8 & 9.  We need to get Queensland for 21-24c winter escape and crowds. Yes crowds.

Any idea where we are basing ourselves? Is it at the facilities GWS used before they moved ?

I seem to remember there was a club called the Blacktown Demons in the old days of the NSL (predecessor of the A League). Anyway, that's my useless fact of the day.

Were they better then us?

Maybe we can merge?

We do need a good striker

Ah Blacktown.....site of one of Australia's most famous political speeches.

It's Time by Gough Whitlam at the Blacktown Civic Centre

Very appropriate location for the MFC given that we have spent longer in the wilderness than the Labour Party had in 1972

Think I heard they'll be based in Manly.

If true,  about as good as it gets in Sydney.

Yep, might be time to change the thread title. We are basing ourselves in Manly.

The way the guys have played they are not deserving of anything resembling a holiday, sons.

What;  Demons Manly beach-side adventure.

Manly, hmm, I wonder if they'll be securely isolated up at that bizarre colonial folly building that got turned into a business management school near North head?  Would be secure and convenient and they'd even be able to get to a little beach. Would actually be an ideal location, given it was already a premium boarding school and is almost certainly unused at present.

In fact, it is probably the only suitable location I can think of out in Manly.  Even the old quarantine huts wouldn't be secure enough, ironically.

If so, I think we've been very lucky under the circumstances.

How many go?  The whole 40 players?  Any info on this?  Assume we will play scratch matches up there too?

Quarantine Station at Manly would not be the worst. Been there for a conference and it is good. Nice, relaxed feel and no distractions.

Seems we are taking 33 players to the hub (according to Goodwin). Who misses out?

Neita, Kolo, Petty, Hore the obvious ones. Bradtke another, perhaps along with Jordon and Dunkley. Both Wagners, Pruess? Another 3 to miss.

Edit: Chandler, Baker, maybe Sparrow the other three?

He said it was a combination of older and younger players. I’m interested on who the senior players being left behind are.
I know Jetta is going. Anyone know if Jones is?

I wasn't sure if "older" meant senior or just older. Could include Jones, who has school age children, but could also cover Pruess, Hore, Josh Wagner.

Maybe Viney doesn't want to move such a young newborn to a hub (and away from family support)?

Edit: Melksham another with older kids.

Viney is going. If he wasn’t we would have heard by now given he’s our vice captain.
You maybe right re: older players not being senior like Wagner or Preuss. Although we would need Preuss for insurance if Gawn gets injured.
Jones is the one who may have decided to stay back. Can’t blame him. He should be playing. If he can’t crack the team in our current horrid form why bother wasting time in the hub away from the family?

Goodwin said at his presser that we are taking 33 players into the hub. Anyone know when we find out who is in and who is out?

We could probably predict the most likely candidates based on the selected 22 today + emergencies and likely additions.

22 from today vs Richmond

  1. May
  2. Salem
  3. Harmes
  4. Petraccca
  5. Viney
  6. Lever
  7. Brayshaw
  8. Gawn
  9. Oliver
  10. Hibberd
  11. Langdon
  12. Melksham
  13. Hannan
  14. Tomlinson
  15. Vandenberg
  16. Rivers
  17. T. McDonald
  18. Hunt
  19. Fritsch
  20. Pickett
  21. Lockhart
  22. Smith

Emergencies

  1. Spargo
  2. O. McDonald
  3. Jackson
  4. Brown

Next 7 likely candidates

  1. Jones
  2. Bennell
  3. Jordan
  4. Weideman
  5. Neal-Bullen
  6. Sparrow
  7. Jetta

In the Mix?

  1. Bedford
  2. Pruess
  3. Baker
  4. Chandler
  5. C. Wagner
  6. J. Wagner

Unlikely/Injured

  1. Bradtke
  2. Dunkley
  3. Kolodjashnij
  4. Nietschke
  5. Hore
  6. Petty

Seems harsh to leave up to 8 fit guys behind given after the 5 games in the hub we'll only have 8 games (possibly in 7 weeks) left.

And now they don't get to play any matches unless...could other clubs combine left overs and create a scratch match schedule in Melbourne?

And if lists are due to shrink we've almost declared time on some guys careers?

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
