I'm surprised, and disappointed, Jackson has been dropped without Brown/Weideman replacing him. I think we're too short in the forward line.

Assuming Lockhart takes Jetta's spot, does Hibberd take Harmes' spot and release Harmes to tag Selwood/Dangerfield?

You're just in the most negative of negative spirals.

The side comes out, you complain that it's bad.

We play, you complain about how we play and selection.

We make changes the next week, you complain that we're making too many changes.

Many of the changes have been previously injured players coming back (e.g. Salem and Jones after Round 1, Hannan, vandenBerg and Lockhart this week).

Why is it ridiculous? One thing we have is depth. We have a number of players who are equally bad at getting the job done. This season is already for the advertising. Anytime your B team is competitive with your A team it means they are very interchangeable. I see little problem with running a few numbers through a few games to see if anyone is so inspired to grab the opportunity to make a career. If we get nothing more than a couple of A team regulars that have earned their place, then it will be real progress.

Comparing the teams, as named, The Dees forward line is actually an average of 2cms taller than the Cats

That may be true, but the question is whether a side with a few genuine talls and then genuine smalls (e.g. Geelong) is better/worse than a side with one genuine tall and then a number of medium-sized forwards (e.g. us).

I'm not saying for sure that the former is better than the latter, but average height doesn't necessarily mean we've got the right balance.

Agreed Titan, I was more responding to the notion that we were midgets! There isn't a player under 6'1" in our named forwards

Fair play to the coaches dropping Jones, Jetta and Jackson. It sends the right message that you don’t get gifted games due to your name or high draft pick - you need to perform.

Smith is next on the chopping block if he has another poor game.

Decent looking team on paper, though forward line still looks potentially shaky. Really need TMac to stand up as a target and hit the scoreboard.

Lucky we’re not playing St Kilda.

On paper, we’ve put out a pretty solid team. No point playing Weideman just for the sake of adding some extra height in the forward line if the coaches don’t think he’s ready to step up to the senior side yet.

Lots of changes. Jetta was a bit of a surprise his form hasn't been great but it hasn't been shocking either. Hibberd is interesting hopefully he has learned not to bomb it all the time. Jones deserves to be dropped but ANB and Jackson a little stiff.

So the team is

B: RIVERS, MAY, LEVER

HB: SALEM, SMITH, HARMES

C : LANGDON, PETRACCA, TOMLINSON

HF: PICKETT, T.MCDONALD, VANDENBERG

F: MELKSHAM, FRITSCH, HUNT

FOLL: GAWN, OLIVER, VINEY

IC: BRAYSHAW, HIBBERD, LOCKHART, HANNAN

Forward line a little bit small, it will be interesting where Lockhart plays whether it's forward or back.

Thank god we don’t have Demonland users selecting the side.

Jetta has been subpar and Lockhart has been banging down the door and should absolutely be playing. Good call

Yes we don’t have a second tall but both Hannan and Fritsch fly for the footy and play taller than they are. We always have too many blokes flying anyway. Tomlinson will backup ruck and Vanders will play wing when he does

I’ve thought the last 2 years we need an injection of youth and pace in the backline. We just need it.
jetta deserves all the accolades internally but he is slow as anyone in the AFL. That does cost us, despite him being a very good footballer.

Go out and recruit a ruck/wingman. That is a first

With the shorter Quarters and longer breaks betwwen goals and quarters Max will ruck 95-98% of game time, he will get a small chop out form either Tmac or Tomilson. What is needed is a smaller quicker running team, Goody is ahead of the currve. How many tall forwards are kicking bags of goals this year. None in the top 10 of the coleman.

I can't believe D'landers saying Nev 'hasn't been great' or 'sub par'. Face facts guys, he's been shocking.

Ryan booted 3.3 against him and it should have been 6.0.

Nev was little better against the Blues, constantly beaten to the ball. I love the bloke, but he's going to struggle to regain his spot.

Tmac similarly needs a rocket up his backside.

He's only keeping his spot on the back of his size. Less than 3 goals and he'll get the chop IMO.

Yeah, lets wear Max into the ground. Goody, ahead of the curve. Give me a break.

All reports suggest the intraclub was played at a strong intensity.

The club may have always known that Bennell was going to need to take a week off from time to time to ensure he doesn't get overloaded.

See above.

I do not understand how this is an issue.

Me neither I've just taken deep breaths to prevent me arguing with one of the resident village idiots

Ha hes will only be playing the same amount of game time as last season not sure how that is wearing him into the ground.

If Max plays 95% of game time, it will still be less than what he would've played in last years full length quarters.

I’m wondering if we are trying to get game time into as many players as we can given no VFL. The more “match fit” players we have the better we will be able to cope with potentially playing more games in a shorter time frame, not to mention when injuries inevitably hit.

Ha, time will tell if that is correct or not, however do you not think his game time wore him out last year. I do.  My comment is to the fact he is our only genuine star, so lets look after him as much as we can.

Absolutely laughable... even by MFC standards Bennell dropped from..a side that didn't even play..... A non appearance.VS Essendive!! Garbage selection if he doesn't play.  [censored] MFC CANNOT BE SERIOUS!!??

Managed after one game and a week of ... Something is seriously amiss!

Agree PF.....

what a joke......it's like a reality TV show.

To also give Luke Jackson (& his family) the highs of his first game a couple of weeks ago & then omitted.

He's got NFI

Don't mind the changes. Nev has been poor for a while now. Nobody should be gifted games. ANB with four score involvements out of seven last game is stiff but it is obvious they really rate Kozzy

Will be interesting to see if the forward line can stand up. I have my doubts. Not sure anyone is capable of taking a contested grab these days apart from Fritta.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
