Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The Age is reporting that two teams will move to Cairns.

"Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk confirmed on Friday the deal had been struck with the AFL and the matches will be played at the 13,500-seat Cazaly’s Stadium"two-afl-teams-moving-to-cairns

“It will be at the back end of this block that finishes around August 20. I think a couple of clubs will go there for three to four weeks"McLachlan

It won't be an SA or WA team as they did their 'hubs'.  Surely, we can't be one of the teams. ?

The best way to avoid Cairns is to win games.  The AFL will probably send teams out of finals contention...

We are supposedly playing in Alice so maybe not a candidate for Cairns but it may come down to which state goverment the AFL is more beholden to.

I think I'm over it now.  Just take each game as it comes.

Edit:  “Three AFL Premiership games will be played at Cazaly’s Stadium and two clubs will relocate to Cairns temporarily with strict quarantine protocols and the COVID Safe Industry Plan in place,”afl-headed-to-cairns

So two teams will hub there and other teams will FIFO to Cairns.

I am hoping its the bulldogs and Richmond as they have played games up there.

I hope its not us.

Couldl be them.

The clubs with the least disrupted schedules (#of hubs and i/state travel) so far are:  Tigers, Bulldogs, North, Ess, Saints, Suns, Lions.  Most (or all) of them went straight to a Qld hub and have not hubbed in WA.  So it would make sense (ha, ha) if the Carins hub clubs were from that group.

I hope it is us. Weather is sensational in Cairns at the moment (day 27°, nights 17°). Cazaly Stadium roughly the same dimensions as Giants Stadium that we seem to love playing on. Plenty of great Accom and lots of things for the players to do on off days. Very Covid free too.
And the fact that I live in the area has nothing to do with me wanting them to play here

Everyone's different, but I wouldn't be surprised if some players in the Maroochydore hub might like the opportunity to go to Cairns for 2 to 3 weeks just for a change of scenery. It must be very limiting being in a hub, wherever it is located and however nice it is, with all the restrictions in place.

I would be hoping its either two of Tigers, Bulldogs, North, Ess, Saints, Suns and Lions.

Would make a bit of sense for it to be the Suns and Lions so that they can try and build on their membership base.

At the same time I would like it if the bumbers and tiges went up just so that the bumbers actually travelled for a change and to remind tiges fans about the Hunt goal after the siren where the suns beat them..

In my view, it's no contest. I would take Maroochydore over Cairns, too. But living out of a suitcase anywhere can be very mentally tiring. If I were not with my family, I suspect I'd be one who wouldn't mind the change, if, for nothing else, just for some different food options.

Game in Hobart will not be happening. Will have to be somewhere else.

Do we know the reason why?

As both teams are in SE Queensland that is the most sensible place.

Fingers crossed you are correct.

Gutwein has to okay it.

Interesting power play as Tas Govt has to pay if North go there. Frankly I think Tassie has better things to spend its money on this year

Surely this will be the case.

Gives the Roos a slight edge as they’ll be in QLD already and we’ll be heading back from Adelaide.

Still - a 2.5 hour flight shouldn’t impact us too much I wouldn’t have thought

Border opening is 7 August for SA, WA and NT, but at least 14 August for anywhere else. As we are coming from Queensland, game will not be in Hobart. I was looking forward to going to the game.

Same, seeing the Dees down here in Hobart was potentially going to be a bright spot in what is turning out to be a bit of a a dismal year. Hella Mega Tour cancelled last week, and I had a cruise booked to NZ for the family that is all but dead in the water and not exactly looking forward to trying to get the money out of the agents involved ?

Clint, only difference I think after listening to Gutwen, is that 14th of August is the earliest date for the borders re-opening fo QLD, NSW and ACT. There is no date as of yet for Victoria, and no incoming tourists coming in via the Spirit (as that obviously is via Victoria.)

Yep. I am hoping to go to Queensland sometime after the 14th as I have family there and would also like to go and see a game or two.

Curious as to whether the AFL can overcome this by sending North to play in SA or WA prior to coming down here to Hobart.  If I read things correctly, MFC technically would not be the issue for that game, as we'll be flying in via SA. It's North coming down via QLD that prevents this game from going ahead.
Unless a similar quarantine period in WA and SA is required for these teams travelling out of the QLD Hub as well, in which case I'm dreaming...

Absolutely hanging out for a game of footy live this year.

Numbers have to come crashing down from now on for that to happen

The above is true, but would work out better still for us for the Collingwood game if we can play Nth in South East Queensland, the we play Collingwood in Rd 12 who will be traveling from Adelaide off a few day shorter break than us.

Completely irrelevantly, I wonder whether the Tas Premier Gutwein and Simon Goodwin are related? I could see how their surnames may have derived from the same original source.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
