Throwing up a thought, if hypothetically we could have a full crowd in Alice Springs, and bearing in mind that Tourism NT are one of our key sponsors, would people be keen for us to have a home match up there?

My personal thoughts are that in this crazy world of ours if we could have a scenario of having a game with a crowd there vs an empty MCG I would take Alice Springs with both hands.

This is exactly what I'm thinking,  Re the Freo match.     Place it in the dead heart.   Warm, no humidity.

And we get to do our indigenous round thing,  with our friends of the centre.

I like it. A July/August hub with games v Lions v Suns v Saints would be a good outcome. Weather would be okay and good to avoid southern winter.

We have already travelled to Perth so safe from that.

Other possibility is Tassie hub with Hawks, Kangas and perhaps Swans. I like it, though August in Tassie would be frosty “cool”.

Definitely don't want Tas. We could come out of that hub 0-3, even if we played well, as they play it better. 1-2 most likely.

We had our chances to put a lead on Brisbane, but wasted chances and fell away at Gabba. So they'd still remember that we could at least be up for the fight on our best day, so upset a chance. And the Suns and Saints.. would be interesting matchups. 50/50

As a Queenslander this is great news .

Maroochydore is a good two hours from Metricon to the earlier comment.

Concur. I'm only 40 minutes away and assume the club will have tickets available for us interstate members seeing you are allowed now to attend games up here..Will send them an email. I would imagine from going to the Maroochy training camp open session we should have about 1k supporters for this game and easily out number the  docker fans.

Looking forward to seeing the team on the GC.

That’s 3 interstate trips in the first 6 weeks.  Ridiculous.

Agree that Demons will DESERVE three MCG games for rounds 7-9. Suggest  v Magpies v Giants v Bulldogs.

Lol this is a joke. 3 interstate games in 6 rounds. One home game all year thus far.
And back to back interstate games.

We better get a dream MCG home game run in the lead to finals.

This is just dumb luck

Freo are up there, we have to play them as we aren't going to travel to Perth, so they probably just figured get us up there and get it out of the way. I don't think there's much more to it than that.

Does this mean that Freo and WCE will stay in Perth for the rest of the year?? How many 'rolling hubs' are we going to have over there?

Anyone know why our game against Freo has been brought forward to a 12:35 pm start? Just curious, means some of us will be into the cans earlier than expected.

Yeah since when did games get played at 12:35, it's not the reserves!

There aren't the normal two Saturday night games being played at the same time so maybe it's to spread out the games more to please broadcasters since the AFLs more desperate atm. Hutchys been on about this for years - never have an overlap between games.

That's some good Sat brunch footy viewin in Perth!

Another winnable game. Bring it on.

we should be 3-2. With plenty of home games to come and look forward to smashing the cheats whenever we get the chance

Demonland logic entry #344:

There are no crowds currently allowed in Victoria.

There may be crowds allowed in Victoria later in the season.

We play a chunk of away games now and are likely to have more home games later in the season.

Ergo . . . ridiculous disgrace we have to forever play away AFL hates us St Kilda something lovechild Gil!!!!

Yet another killer time slot..... Our few sponsors must love us

Round 6 Freo at Metricon, Saturday arvo I think.

3/5 interstate so far.

Rather play Freo in Qld than in Perf. Heaps better for us.

Looking forward to a Collingwood-like run of M.C.G games later in the season.

Looking at the draw. Excited to see the very real prospect of the Eagles losing their next 2 games and being down the bottom near the Dees.. Would be absolutely HILARIOUS to have the AFL announce a Perf grand final only for the Eagles to miss out.

I suspect earlier time slot for ESPN2 or Fox Sports 1&2 to cater to US watchers now that we're being shown internstionally. I think it brings it down to 2230 or 2300 or so.

Just looking at this week:

Well, since he plays for them now, I guess it would be Frosty.

Home games at the G are really important as the MCC 'grant' us (and other tenant clubs) $150K to $200K per game we host there.

8/9 Home games at the G equates to about $1.2m to $1.8m; a huge sum this year.  As no crowds are allowed there is no reason why we should not get those 8 or 9 Home games.

Will be filthy if we lose out to other MCG tenants on the basis of needing to be 'flexible' and 'agile'.

Our season has been messed up more than any other and will be moreso if we play 3 games in 9 days to catch up the Ess game.  The AFL owe us so I hope our management make very loud noises at AFL house.  We should be demanding at least 8 Home games at the G!

My MFCSS is preparing me for Rich and Coll saying that if we want the blockbusters to carry over to next year they should get the Home game (and the MCC 'grant') this year.

Yes a bit odd TLE, just thinking if we fly in on game day the boys’ alarms will need to be in fine form.

St Kilda - all 6 games in Melbourne to start the season.

They better cop it in the neck in the second half of the season.

Swings and roundabouts. St Kilda has had the worst free-to-air TV exposure during the same period.

Travis Auld from the AFL explained on SEN this morning that the early start allows Freo to return to Perth before midnight the same day which is important for future scheduling as the 14 day quarantine period would have gone an extra day if they arrived after midnight.

Has that always been the case, and if so, is it likely to be the case this year in light of the financial stress being felt across the entire industry?

It is a covid-19 special.  MCC covid-19 payment

Apparently the AFL will do similar with Marvel stadium tenants.  Interstate clubs not to happy about it.

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.

Just a game and percentage outside the Top 8, the Demons return to Melbourne to face the Sydney Swans at the MCG, with a golden opportunity to build on the momentum from toppling the reigning premiers on their own turf. Who comes in, and who makes way?
