Positives:

No turnovers.

Backline kept the opposition scoreless.  May and Lever anchored us well.

Hussle around the packs and pressure from the mids and forwards didn't allow them to touch the ball at all.

Bombers are absolute knobs.

Negatives:

Conor McKenna.

We didn't score.

We struggled again with that mid forward connection and couldn't get the ball inside 50 once.

Tom McDonald to cop it again this week after not clunking a single mark.

Thoughts?

 Very clever.

The votes will be interesting this week.

With the back line keeping them scoreless, you would think votes will go there.  Lever a standout.

The problem is that we’re now behind the eight ball as far as our preparation for our next game is concerned. No compensation for that and later in the season we’re going to potentially have a crowded fixture.

The impact on our preparation from last week to next week is unavoidable, there's nothing the AFL can do about that. We're not going to get "compensated" - we're unlikely to be the only side to cop this, and even if we are, it's a preferable alternative to having no season at all.

If there are no other tests (unlikely, but let's run with it), then I guess the hope would be that we play Essendon at the end of the season prior to finals: that way both sides come off the same shorter break.

Just check most of the other threads.  I'm sure you'll find one in there.

What a match, Hey?

Harmes BOG.!

Goodwin still can’t coach. No improvement at all compared to last week. It was like he wasn’t even there!

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
