Wouldn’t the logical solution be that every team has a bye round between now and the end of H&A games?

All i keep hearing is about how bad trhis is fr Essendon.. this is shockingly unfair on our season. First they cancelled teh season before our first game.. had to have an impact, now this. We are the ones going to have a heavily compromised season.

Not sure, I would say no. I thought I read somewhere on here last night but I couldn’t find it this morning, where someone said something along the lines of “being viral it can take days to fully infect your body, so a series of your tests could come back as negative, negative, low range, positive, even though you’ve had the disease for a couple of days”.

Yep. And I expect that is exactly what will happen.

It will also mean they can better work out tbe west Australian teams retiring to WA and the whole WA hub set up.

Its a bit dodgy to ask teams to play 2 games in say 6 days especially if you are a finals chance and its getting close to seasons end. So AFL will likely try to avoid late season games. The virus gets  a little worse AFL may end up reducing the season somehow to 15 or 16 rounds over the course of the season. Its everyone play each other once now so all fair now but the AFL 22 or 23 rounds was not done that way in the past.  So a reduced 15 or 16 round season would be a break glass in case of emergency but not out of the question. 

The AFL is determined to award a Premiership cup no matter what.

binman. Why do we have a two-week quarantine period instituted almost all across the world if we assume anyone who tests negative is virus-free? I don't get it. Otherwise, we could just test people and let them go on with their lives.

No wonder he's carrying Corona,  he's a Fly by Night Vampire.

It stands to reason that a player or 2 was going to test positive to the virus so another plan surrounding that inevitabily could have been enacted.

There was talk previously of playing games every day with an even bigger reduction in game time (but with more games)  Any game called off could simply be called a draw in that scenario. 

Yes, that opens up the possibility that games could be deliberately compromised but again,  that possibility is always there anyway (PED use etc)

Let's face it,  the draw/fixture is compromised anyway so we never get parity.

So,  in theory,  today's game gets called off with the points shared but we might have been playing another game on Wednesday. 

The best teams end up at the pointy end of the ladder and any premiership is never won with luck being a big factor. 

Players going home to their wives & children greatly increases the chances of the virus appearing in the hubs too.  So,  you live with the risk and plan accordingly.

What we've got now is confusion and no clear path.  You can't have forfeit's as we're all in the same boat.

We quarantine travellers here because they apply the harm minimization principle of assuming anyone returning has it.

However, in Victoria, only people who have been in close contact (not any contact) with someone who has covid have to isolate/quarantine. 

If someone only had contact with say conner then the principle is that it is very unlikely they will have contracted it. So a test on Tuesday will confirm they are covid free.

But any close contact with conner  will be isolated EVEN IF the test comes back negative

Correct. In fact it could take up to 2 weeks or longer to show positive.

 

Looks bad for Essendon from a playing perspective in the next two weeks... from the channel 7 report above... quoting the Chief Health Officer

"If that individual (McKenna) has trained with such a number that they won’t be able to play, then that’s how they will have to proceed,” Sutton said.

“But if they can manage with the existing player list, minus those close contacts, then they will proceed.

“I think they are still working up the close contact list.”

I fear will be underdone for Geelong.

In the last 15 years, more Essendon players have tested positive to Coronavirus than have won a final.

That means rnd 4 Ess v Carlton and then rnd 5 Ess v Coll would go ahead.  Whereas our game has been postponed to later in the season.

This seems grossly unfair to us as 1) Carl and Coll would play a depleted Ess team whereas we play them when back to full strength.  2) the postponement means playing Geelong next week when they will be more match fit having played to consecutive games after the long break to our one.

These 2 things will make it harder for us to finish above Carlton, Coll and Geel.

I don't know what the answer is but I feel we get a double penalty.  That implicitly annoys me. 

But also I was looking forward to a season where we had 'no excuses' if we perform poorly.  It is no longer a level playing field and we can't afford the appearance of a poor season (memberships, sponsors etc) even if circumstances and lady luck is stacked against us.  No one wants excuses, again.

At what point does the AFL say enough is enough and remove them from the competition?  Every 5 years they bring the game into disrepute with their arrogance, corruption  and / or incompetence.

Bring in a  Tasmanian team and [censored] Essendon off.
