Goodwin

Is

A Fraud.

He looked like Norm Smith in the first quarter and a half before quickly becoming a combination of Mark Neeld and Peter Rohde.

To sum up the shambles, the team belts the song out with gusto before skipper Max is even back in the rooms - first win as Captain.

FMD.

it was like watching a bad movie after quarter time but with a good ending JUST.

Glad to see HB get through and Rivers looks like a cracker.

Well .... I’ve got no idea what to make of that !!

The better side lost Uncle! I have serious concerns for the mental fragility of this squad, well at least the leadership group.

That nervous look that Goodwin was showing on the bench late in the game is uninspiring. Theirs absolutely no confidence, he looks like he’s just coaching to save his job.

That was pathetic, we need at least an eight goal lead to be comfortable.

The lack of composure in the front half still kills us, we stop when we should play-in and play-in when we should stop.

Tom McDonald is cooked.

Jake Melksham is cooked.

Goodwin has no idea what he’s doing.

Smith should never be in the back half again.

ANB was very good.

Hunt was very good.

Rivers is an absolute beauty.

Lever and May aren’t what we paid for.

Once Carlton worked out Gawn we were done.

Petraccca is a star.

Sung the song without the Captain. Yikes.

There are arguably only two teams worse than Carlton... GCS and St Kilda

we almost managed to lose to Carlton... in fact we would have if they kicked straight.

The selections were terrible. ANB's late inclusion saved us along with Hunt who I thought would never play seniors again.Where was our forward line.

Weid deserved a game in front of Jackson. Smith is experimental at best.

The only upside is that when I saw the team on Thursday I felt sure we would lose.

Can we regroup... who knows

Senior players let us down. Where was Melksham, McDonald, Lever, Jones???

Veey poor performance.

Trent Rivers was impressive and Bennell will only get better.

What a disappointing win. I feel sick. The whole season 2020 should have been cancelled. Would have been better for my health. This whole year is write off anyway. Stress overload.

At least we won’t have a winless season ?

Did they just sing the song without the captain?

Can't say I'm a fan of that.

Can't say i am a fan of them singing the song after that second half. Anyone with an ounce of leadership in that room would've put a stop to it.

[censored] this guy off

Only Carlton's inaccuracy saved @#X!$%?*'s head from the chopping block!

On today's showing there are three teams worse than Carlton.  Imagine what this would have turned into if Carlton turned up in the first 1.5 quarters.

Pathetic effort from an AFL team, barely competitive in the second half.
They should be ashamed of that capitulation no matter the result.
it’s going to be a long long year.

I thought Fritsch was a beautiful kick?

Hes another of our worries and there are plenty.

Fritsch is a terrible set shot as I mentioned here during the COVID break.

Has kicked 1.6 to start the season.

Really needs to work on his accuracy If he’s going to make it as a genuine player in this league.

Melksham needs a rocket in him or else he’ll be kicking off the dew Hibberd.

Another unsatisfying win.

Melksham didn’t want to be there, I wouldn’t be upset if that’s the last we see of him.

All of this and more

I cannot believe our attitude - 40 odd up and just stopped?

We should have lost this. Cripps, Walsh all made errors and that's that.

Still I’d rather learn from a bad win than a narrow loss.

Now we have to arrange how 5 people are going to sleep, in a one bedroom apartment

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons have the Bye next week but then are on the road once again when they come up against the Gold Coast Suns on the Gold Coast in what could be a last ditch effort to salvage their season. Who comes in and who comes out?

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
