Rivers and Lockhart - very good kicks: what we need.

Might only be a scratch match but there are players here clearly trying their hardest to make an impression and impressing they are.

Some of the ball movement out of defence has been first class and intensity is through the roof.

Fritsch behind from a set shot

 4.12.36 to 3.2.20

I could go back to 2019 match reports and copy and paste about 500 comments asking. Why Isn't goal kicking coached and practiced at training?

Good forward pressure and tackle by Bedford. Reward for effort with the set shot Goal.

Rivers kick a few minutes ago out of the back 50 was a beauty. Allowed us to open up the whole ground and transition quickly  for a shot on goal. Hope to see him in the seniors this year.

Isn’t Lewis our goal kicking coach?

Field kicking has been good, just not goal kicking.

I wonder how far Spargo can kick. I dont know if he can cover > 35 meters.

WHAT THE HELL IS STAFFORD DOING?

How is a former ruckman the goal kicking coach? On researching this he kicked 141 goals 66 behinds during his career, so he did spend some time forward. FWIW, I played a lot of my amateur football as a ruckman and take offense that stereotype us as poor kicks. Having said that, if you had Matthew Lloyd or Greg Stafford as your two options........

He’s getting plenty of it.

Loving our transitions but by golly, Gus looks rusty!

He looks a fair way off teh pace, which is ok, Swallow looks better than him. It may take a while for Gus to get going. He wouldnt be on the plane to Perth in my team at the moment, looks like he needs block of games.

Anyone know who’s wearing 17, 37 & 49 guernseys. All getting a bit of pill in the 3rd quarter.

Edited by Mel Bourne

whoever the Casey boys are they’re doing alright.

Either you're a prophet, or the stream is on a delay...!

I think the best thing to come out of this game is that it looks like we have depth, more so than ever. Its exciting.

Thinking about a pint or two at Hardemans after this if anyone is keen.
Meet a few of you desperado’s.

Liking some of Bedfords work he could get some senior games this year

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
