Time for Omac to show us if he has improved.

This will be one of the things I will be watching most intently on Saturday night.  We will need key back depth.  At his 2018 level O'Mac was good enough.  If he can improve a few notches on 2018 through that long maturity curve of KPPs, then I do think he could be a very important yet underrated part of our success going forward.

A meaningless team-sheet for a mostly meaningless game. But Weideman in the centre is curious. Is it possible that they're intending to try some sort of rotation between Weid, Jackson and Brown, with Jackson to get a run through the middle?

I think it does the Weid good to get pushed into the ruck a bit - gets him a bit angry, fired up and into the game physically.

Not meaningless at all.

Much needed match practice , and a chance to look at recruits in a game situation.

I do agree with probable ruck rotations though.

These are meaningless games... until we get rolled.  Then it's got all the meaning in the world.

He was our second highest goal kicker in 2019.

True, but 21 goals from 21 games and goalless in one third of them isn’t a great return for a full time small forward.

There aren’t too many that currently have him in their best 22 and it seems to be the consensus opinion on the football world that small forward is our weakest position.

Dont get me wrong, I love him, but the best football of his career has been off half back where he was one of the most exciting young prospects in the league.  To me, he’s never looked entirely comfortable forward of centre.

But of course, that’s one persons opinion.

I like to think the club has learnt from there mistakes and are taken a very curious approach with the players this preseason, just hoping when they come back they are ready to string 20 + games together.

We have heaps of talent so for me no1 priority is team chemistry if we get 20 games out off our top 15 players then skis the limit this year. GO DEES!

I'm quite interested to see how they go too.

...but I know what you mean.  ?  Darn autocarrot!

Jones on a half back flank. I hope they are not seriously considering this.

Very sure than Harmes will start in that half back spot, Jones forward, Petracca on ball.

I am pumped that we are into it again and am especially happy to see Vanders named in the squad. Surely this must have come as a big surprise to just about everyone on this site?

Jackson.

Kossie.

Sparrow.

AVB.

Langdon.

Tomlinson.

Fully fit Lever.

Fritta back in a FP.

Melky also fit and back on a fwd flank.

So many reasons to be excited about a "meaningless" match.

I cant [censored] wait.

I'm surprised at the strength of the squad we've named given the injuries we've had.

I never follow pre-seasons closely so I'm not particularly qualified to comment, but I'm nevertheless surprised Hunt can't get in the squad for our opening pre-season match.

Probably more likely than a Spargo, Kossie, Lockhart combo.

We have not had many injures, play management has been reported as injuries by people that run this site

What is the problem with Mitch Brown? He played some good games at Essendon and by all reports is training well. You know how a change of club can do wonders. We will see if your criticism comes to fruition,

I agree BM. With the Weid in the ruck it does not leave too many options. And after all it is a practise match.

All injuries listed on our injury list were reported by regular trackwatchers, the media and mentioned in various MFC articles/interviews.

The only information we didn't have was a timeframe.

I took 3 players off the list tonight after the squad was announced.

1. Tom McDonald - was reported by trackwatchers last Friday to have landed gingerly (ankle) and did not participate in the rest of training that day. On Monday was reported by various media outlets that his knee was bandaged and was training with the rehab group. His elevation to the injury list at the time was warranted.

2. Aaron vandenBerg was reported by trackwatchers to have appeared to have injured his foot and hobbled back to AAMI and has not appeared at the last couple of training sessions. His absence was also reported by the media. His elevation to the injury list was warranted as well.

3. Joel Smith's foot injury has been documented by the club and he's mostly been in rehab only kicking on his non-preferred foot. His elevation to the injury list was definitely warranted.

These 3 players still might not play or be on restricted minutes.

None of the other remaining players we have on the injury list were selected to play warranting their inclusion on the list too. You can call it management but if they are unavailable to play then it's just semantics.

We are not jumping at shadows nor saying some of them aren't being managed. If they are not ready to take the field even in a practice match then they should be included on such a list. It is not hysterics from the people that run this site it's just facts.

If posters become hysterical because of the facts then that is their prerogative just as it is your prerogative to ignore them.

Perhaps we should change the name of the injury list to the not fully match fit list if that is more palatable for you.

Great to see Langdon, Tomlinson, Brown, Jackson and Pickett in red and blue.

And AVB, Melksham, Lever, Jetta and TMac all turning out for the opener.

Exciting times. Strap in for the ride.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
