Very easy, you need to show a community benefit, you can't just go in with we want money for AFL training base.  Look back at most my posts on this, there needs to be some community benefit.

Geelong will add in indoor netball courts or something.  Kardina Park has a netball outdoor facility, plus the home of AFL barwon umpires.  They will add in upgrade to the umpire facility add inside cricket nets, netball courts.  They are add ons to get the money.

function and events facilities is seemingly a big part of this pitch too

Jeeelong is a City

The Cats are the only Team down there

they get what they want.

The Ghost of Frank Costa still pulls a few strings…

Some of you have no idea how complex the dealings are with all this regarding the council, government all the different sporting and community groups the opposition to it by community groups plus you have a state government budget shortage money wise, but we still have Goshs paddock and Casey until it's sorted out.

Team up with Reach, Jim Stynes Centre for disadvantaged youth or something like that. It's a no-brainer, not sure why we aren't pursuing it! His legacy on both organisations recognised in one development.

Function and event facilities are really commercial spaces and offer no real community benefit. I'm staggered thay Geelong are pushing for this given the amount of State Government funding they have received in the past 20 years. Hopefully it gets knocked back and the GFC and Local Government are asked to contribute the majority of funding.

Quite possibly....  and Roffey spruiked herself as the Queen of Stadia..    that's her gig.  She would know all of this....

And here we are.

If you know anything about the Glen Eria council there has been problems from the moment they announced it, so tell me what are the problems then?

Yep, Vic government is basically broke, the big build is coming with a big debt.  This means the positioning for any state money needs to show big community impact and votes.  Geelong will be targeting federal money commitments from both parties for 2025 election promises.

Our concern doesn't seem to be funding as yet, we still don't have a firm location as yet.  Caulfield racecourse is the latest but really this is still a maybe.

I wonder how much money the club has burnt doing the feasibility studies on various options

If that paragraph actually made coherent sense I'd be happy to.

The beef, for want of a better word, is Roffey campaigned on her abilities and experience. Irrelevant of whatever obstacles , met and still hindering, we have been told next to zip about progress and whatever is hurting the project/proposal.

The membership is entitled to clear and timely updates even if they are  constrained. It's not good enough to provide little to nothing. That's performing poorly

All councils , governments, interested parties, stakeholders can be buggers to deal with. This is hardly an unknown nor peculiarly specific to Glen Eira.

Life was not meant  to be easy

A rebel board member has called for a spill of the Melbourne Racing Club committee following scathing criticism of Caulfield Racecourse’s new $160 million mounting yard facilities as well as the club’s $250 million plans to replace the Rupert Clark Grandstand.

Boards should listen to people who know what they are talking about and not members. Imagine if the MFC board listened to the nuffies on Demonland.

We’d have 36 tall forwards on the list, we’d have KPIs centred around ‘kicking the bloody thing’ but there would be ongoing indecision about whether the coach is the right person for the job.

A change of committee could only be bad news for us bringing more delay and uncertainty.

I can't help but read this as "a board member who was in the minority/lost the vote, has called for a spill of the entire board so that it can (hopefully) be replaced by a new board that agrees with them".

Just let the Caulfield project go through, I may be moving there next year 🤞🏻

I am moving in permanently tomorrow. Well, to Glen Huntly, next door to Caulfield the Lesser (South) and nearby Caulfield itself. A 15 min stroll passed the brand new station and that excellent Asian restaurant that looks like a takeaway but is always booked out and has Chinese food that people come for miles around to eat....

To be fair this could be just about anywhere in Noodleville's eastern suburbs right now.

How has there been no update yet? According to the pdf the council put up the report was supposed to be produced in June.

Sounds like there might be some movement on this soon. MFC to contribute a further $20m - $25m towards the development of a training facility at Caulfield.

Not fancy enough.

Cirque du Soleil always goes to Flemington Racecourse, just saying. It would be an improvement on Caulfield.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
