The bigger issue would be getting permission to get the building constructed and the overall costs. Finding the money to get it constructed is the more serious challenge. It would easily cost $100+ million to get the home base built.

So pretty much the same $$ (or less) spent on GMHBA by state Govts of late?  Shouldn't be too much to ask then.

Maybe we should burn down the Reischstag in Spring Street and build a stadium there.

With the disappointment of going out in straight sets the PR department at the Melbourne Football Club needs to give us something on this front now as this is where our attention will now turn. This fixation with it being near the MCG is so restrictive to it actually getting done. Form a partnership with the Melbourne Racing Club and be a part of the redevelopment of the Caulfield Race Course and build there. Ticks so many boxes, Melbourne supporter heartland, public transport on hand, enough land to use, opportunity for community shared use for grants / funding, not as far too travel for majority of players as Casey ( although I do like Casey as a facility and it’s potential) Everything we could need or want can be some there. And if you get a on a City bound Cranbourne or Pakenham line train it’s only 3 [censored] train stations from the MCG as lost trains are express, not quite a stones throw from the MCG but more skimming of stones. Get it done and get it done quickly MFC!!!!!

I think all of us as Melbourne Demons members and supporters need to be focused on the issue of a home base in the off season.

I encourage every one of us to keep the pressure on the Melbourne Football Club board so that this matter of a home base is resolved.

This means ringing the Club, sending emails to the Club and asking these questions about a home base at Club functions as well as at the AGM and other Melbourne member forums.

If we keep up the inquiry and the demand of a home base....hopefully it will indeed happen. Eventually!

“There is no doubt that Casey Fields, if it is not already, will transform into one of the states’ premier sporting and recreation destinations, and probably even be an exemplar nationally,” Mr Boardman said.

“With future investment and leadership at this end at by those who are tenants and advocates and promoters of the precinct, there is no doubt in my mind that in 20 years post, all of the aspects contained in the master plan will be fully realised.

High hopes for Casey Fields

It will be our major facility for some time if not forever. Time to embrace  it. Pipe dreamers won’t agree but five years on from the dream we have a surface up grade at Goschs and continuing silence from the MFC. Hardly spectacular progress.

Have to agree with this... if its to be at Casey come out on the front foot and tell us, leaving everyone in the dark is worse.

Imo if its to hard to get something big enough close enough to the G. Keep Casey and have a second smaller training facility where admin, fan functions can happen atleast its done

Where's Casey again?

Cranbourne.

Honestly I don't know why we aren't keen to make it our home. Yes it's a drive, but honestly for players who live in the Peninsula it is a quicker drive than going into the CBD.

There is ample land, and parks around, you could easily make it a recreational hub for supporters and members, and make it into a state of the art facility.

Anyone who has ever been down there knows it is absolutely enormous in terms of land and potential to expand.

It doesn't hurt that Casey is one of the fastest growing areas in Melbourne, with loads of development going on, additional roads being built and so forth. There would be massive appetite for a purpose built facility with food and beverages on offer as well, which could generate a heap of revenue for the club. Like Bentleigh Club but better.

We would be much more likely to get state funding for a development out there as it is a major growth corridor and, given Andrews is likely to win by a landside, also a major Labour stronghold he will be happy to invest in.

Even so if you could 'sell' the Peninsula life style to future players similar with what Geelong do it could be a advantage we haven't thought off?

We are welded to the G. Until the board and 10% of our members relent we will wander on for the foreseeable future.

The board, especially the president and our facilities specialist CEO need to be held to account and inform us members what on earth is going on. Kate Roffey came in espousing the need for quality training facilities (as several before have done), yet we continue to remain in the dark, at the behest of the board.

Time is well overdue to disclose the entire situation, otherwise step aside.

All I will say is that I expect many Melbourne members to ask the hard questions to the MFC board about our home base being built in the MCG precinct and what the timeline will be.

I am sure a number of us will do this at the upcoming MFC members forum (if it is happening?) as well as the MFC AGM.

We must demand results and hold those MFC board members on the home base committee accountable. All we want is honesty and transparency about what is happening.

Only problem is that they pick and choose which questions to answer. Where’s the transparency?

It's common practice for clubs to have state of the art training and admin facilities in the outer suburbs / away from their "spiritual homes". Off the top of my head, two teams I support in Arsenal (London Colney) and the Dallas Cowboys (The Star) are based miles away from their homes, being the Emirates and AT&T Stadium respectively.

If it's not possible to get something built close to the G, why not go big at Casey? Melbourne City FC have just had a sizable facility built (check it out here - https://melbournecityfc.com.au/news/melbourne-city-fc-create-new-etihad-city-football-academy-australia-south-east-melbourne), so there's clearly an appetite from the powers that be to house professional sporting organisations out that way.

You can stamp your feet all you want, unless we get state and federal money nothing will happen.  The club would have had many meetings and submissions, unfortunately giving more money to the Olympic Park/mcg precinct isn't a high priority when you have a health and education crisis in most states of Australia.

Sorry, would love to see our club get millions like other clubs but at this time there is bigger priorities

No doubt the Casey facilities are great, but the Club still needs a spiritual home, where the clan can gather.

no, we don't - it would be a cash drain with no real return on investment

Geelong sells the active lifestyle of the surf coast. I'm not as familiar with the Peninsula but it seems more suited to retirees.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie
