I do get that, but wasn't the whole idea of having our very own home base was so that we could finally be one whole club which would include players and administrator staff being in the one precinct and finally be free of having to share facilities with other sporting codes?

Which other AFL clubs are sharing facilities with other sporting codes?

That's true, will be interesting to see what is actually announced.

I think we will have everything under one roof, sharing facilities is the issue but if it doesn't impact our use of those facilities I don't see the problem, it could even work to our advantage sharing IP with others across the codes.

No issues at all if all the 'Melbourne teams' come together under one giant roof. Dee's Storm Victory Rebels

Makes complete sense as some facilities will only be used in short bursts and can be well and truly shared - think medical/rehab/gym/pool/meeting rooms/chill out zone's... Cross team IP and culture benefits galore.

If it's set up right it could be golden

If it can be used by a number of clubs in different codes, not Collingwood or Richmond, but other sporting clubs.
then the political pain or gain is spread over a far wider audience and can be more easily justified.
rather than to be seen to be favouring a self righteous Liberal voting MCC offshoot.
whether that last comment is right or wrong is not important. It needs to be seen as equatable within the Labour Party membership.

like living in Warrnabool area.

nothing gets done down here because the area always votes Liberal.

Libs don’t have to do anything

and Labour gets no benefit if they do

because the area will still vote Libs

And Geelong is amongst a few marginal electorates of swinging voters (and regional), hence the multimillion dollar upgrades.

Not ok with sharing facilities to justify the project.  Partly because it wouldn't be easy to sell sponsor 'naming rights' if there was no clear identity with the demons.  Nor would we be able to put up The Home of the Demons type signage without including the other sports.  There is a revenue impact of sharing.

I would prefer we include a cause(s) the club has had a genuine or long association with eg Reach, Breast Cancer, MND (but they have been given space in the Southern Stand) and link up with entities connected to the selected cause.   Then invest resources in that cause.

Exactly.

Very difficult to promote through Labour membership to support blue blood MCC offshoot. I understand we are a diverse group, just read demonland.

but to support something that might or will help a “group” of clubs far easier to gain support and acceptance

I don’t think Storm or Victory would be seen as blue blood liberal supporters.
but what di I know. SFA

I’m not sure any of those causes are getting us to 300 million.

But there’s also the chance we can build a standalone section in what is somewhat a shared facility. Doesn’t have to be one or the other.

I’m not sure every team will be included either. We’ll vacate the current stadium facilities and open up room for the teams there. It might be pretty much our facility but we share the gym, pool and indoor training space.

I've always wanted to see a chart of house price rises in marginal seats v safe seats.

The marginal seats get preference in infrastructure.

Yeah I remember something along those lines as well.

But then again - we were a an absolute shambles then. And Schwab..... probs dont need to look to hard why nothing would have come from it

Spoke to a few club people about this. We need to bide our time. Its all happening behind the scenes but the club can't say anything lest they upset one of the 20 or so stakeholders.

Part of the problem is that there are so many fingers in the pie with regard to getting sign off. Melbourne Parks Trust, Olympics Park Trust, the City of melbourne, the State government, the Tennis Centre trust etc etc.

There are 3 separate Ministers that have to sign off any proposal and given its location there are no votes in this at all for the Govt.

We have all heard it before but I am comfortable giant strides have been taken towards a solution.

No wonder its taken so long! If it doesn't get signed off before the election forget about an announcement this year I'd say. And hopefully no change of government which could reset the whole thing.

There is no agreed plan at this stage. Let's suppose tomorrow they reveal the holy grail when do you think construction will finish and the grand opening taking place?

My opinion, no sauce, not much pie.

will start construction late 2023 be ready to use 4 months before the “empire games” get to Melb  could be used for training for those athletes

and will in the end be used over the 4 or so teams that train here.

makes political sense and continues the infrastructure program that seems to be in place. Says to everyone. We do things for all victorians  though the rural areas only get tokens,

but I might be totally wrong

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
