Have they started on the new foundations at AAMI as yet? 😉

i take it that is a new fence?   (not to be confused with picket fence)

I assume they will use rolled turf rather than seed.

Wonder when the turf will "take" given that "winter is coming".

Great to see some progress! Finally!

Once the ground has been done we can hopefully start laying the foundations for our Home Base! Fingers crossed!🤞

They will plant seed or the grass patches very soon. Allow any warmth to fire up the roots settle over winter and then take off in spring.  Some training maybe next Jan in my opinion

good to see but,

be more pleased with an announcement about construction and use by MFC after the empire games,

Go Dees

They were when I was a bit younger.

not sure there is an empire anymore nor a commonwealth for that matter. Good for the athletes and a small amount of exposure to the world . Good idea I think to spread it around the state. Pity the city here did not bother to take the proposal seriously.

Don't ask John Snow, he didnt know anything apparently....

Obviously will not do any training on it this season....

They might get it to root faster if they apply some sort of heating to the roots,  I have no idea how and its a huge area.

Perhaps cover it with clear poly or something in patches, and then move it after a week or two

Over at the cricket ground they use rolls of turf sourced from a nursery in (I think) central Victoria. This allows the ground staff to fix/repair sections of the ground quickly. Rather more expensive I imagine than broadcasting a few handfuls of seed around and waiting for it to grow.  What they do at Gosch’s I suppose depends on time, money and flocks of hungry pigeons.

I think there like at Docklands they use commercial slabs of turf with a depth of almost one foot. This means they don't move.

From the pictures it doesn't look like there is room depth wise for big slabs.

At least there's some progress

Sports turf is an incredible science these days. And the best stadiums use a combination of natural and synthetic grass (for stability and hardiness) and it comes in a thick profile which results in the turf being ready for play almost immediately. The redevelopment of the MCG and the new Optus stadium used a proprietary pre-grown product called Eclipse Stabilized Turf. Not sure if our construction budget allows for this type of product - but would be great if it did, as we would be able to train on the oval pretty soon after it is laid. Mazer’s pics don’t seem to indicate that there is allowance for a thick profile turf to be installed on top of the current levels, but I don’t know enough about it to say definitely either way. I guess we will know soon enough.

What about Rono? Does he still post here? Cut from same cloth as above.

I liked Yze Magic though as he sucked BigFooty into believng he was about to be drafted. He also called the Csam Bruce descent first

Do you know that as fact  MD ?

The State Govt needed a different slant on the Games to 2006 and building up Regional facilities is both functionally smart and you would think politically rewarding.

Don't think The MCC necessarily canned the games but Dan or another lily came up with the Regional proposal.

As we know Victoria  excels in events far better than any other states.

There has not been an official State Govt announcement yet.

Hold your horses it will come . May not be till between our 14th  and 15 th Flags, though.

Some of the stadiums around the world are just amazing, is it Japan or Spain where they literally move an entire ground of turf out and a new one slides in.

They have something similar in the States for an NFL team too I think. Somehow roles underneath the stadium basically on wheels

Augusta National is said to have heaters under the greens. Maybe our state government would contribute to setting up and running it.  Would only be a few million dollars I imagine.  🙄🙄🙄🙄

Maybe down at Kardinia Park. Geelong is a marginal seat after all.

Interesting! Schalke what a call from grace. I see the Raiders do the same in Vegas too.

This was the one I remember, Sapporo Stadium for the rugby World Cup.

Eat you heart out Docklands with those moveable seats!

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
