There's a lot of other people that should be sacked before Harley

He stuffed up, yes he should be held accountable and punished.

The Cairns debacle will cost the club more than $50k

Why didn’t he ask permission if he needed to get a different car, because his dad id sick?

Very difficult position

Yeah story isn't making sense at all.

Yep. There is a lot we are not being told

but if Harley is not answering his phone, his chances of keeping his job diminish

Half the country is unloading their wisdom about Dan Andrews.  All over the western world people are publicly protesting against the rules imposed to stop us infecting and killing each other.  There's a lot of spur-of-the-moment full-head-of-steam stupidity around.  How do we know what it's been feeling like for Harley Bennell?  Lots of people do erratic things.

So he's done similar things before?  Jake Lever has dropped marks before.  We've all posted rubbish at one time or another.  We can hardly say that the person having the capacity or tendency to make the mistake makes it a worse mistake - it's at most just likelier.  Give the guy a break!

MFC is trying to put together a winning team of footballers.  Harley Bennell is a bit not-dead-centre perhaps, but he can play football.  How much damage has he done to anything other than PR?  I cannot get my head around the reasoning, the holier-than-thou shock-horror being expressed.  Football might have saved Liam Jurrah, or any one of the players who subsequently were found to be fighting depression etc.   Thank goodness for football, where some lucky people have gifts that might clear them a pathway through their own demons.

I hope there is wisdom at the club, and not just cringing from the public commentary, when they weigh this up.

I think he should be sacked. The club can still assist his mental health on the side if need be. Under no circumstances do I want the club to keep him because "they feel sorry for him." He adds very little and the trust is shot to pieces. We move on in an endeavour to become a ruthless club. Thanks but no thanks, seeya.

Must be sacked. it's unfortunate but he's missing the first 4 weeks on suspension anyway. Then, AT BEST, he makes his way into the team around round 8 then he's lost 1/3rd of the season. It's not worth keeping him on.

Based on what exactly?

Based on Samantha Jettas instagram, it looks like its all over for Harley?

I just read that as last day of the hub and they are saying bye to a kid they saw every day for

months.

Regardless of whether or not he has a contract in 2021, it's a 'given' that both our Club and the AFLPA will be there to support Harley and his family going forward.  He is very fortunate in this regard.

There's A LOT more context to this whole thing that people here or in the media don't seem to care about. We're in a time where media, social media and forums like this tend to only bother with short and sharp judgments and comments when in reality things are way more complicated. A bunch of family issues, including his Dad's illness, are just part of a bigger picture of what Harley has been dealing with. Not making excuses for his mistake of course, and all the 'hubbed' players are struggling, but people need to try and treat this situation with a bit more patience and compassion IMO.

Great post

Great post. The faux outrage does my head in, especially since we all have struggles going on at the moment. May wisdom prevail

Great post @robbiefrom13. Whilst I'm disappointed that he transgressed, let's wait for all the facts to come out before making judgements.

If it ends up being Goodwin's, then we should have HB immortalised in bronze outside the MCG

Funny. Much more likely it'll be a fitness coach, or trainer. Goodwin ain't going anywhere.

Poor choice by Harley and no doubt will suffer the consequences but a lot on here showing little knowledge on how addictions work and how hard they are to control.

Hope some of our big fellas can track down ‘turns’ and let him/her know it’s not on

Jaded I am not sure how many social media sites you visit but believe me Demonland is very tame by comparison.

I really hope we don't delist Harley. We need to see what he can do in 2021. I reckon he'd be that player that we need to rise up the ladder.

If they keep him on I suspect they would delist first then give him another summer trial for a supplemental selection period spot.

time for him to move on and we forget he was at mfc ,gave nothing but took what he could and [censored] on everyone helping him

Even if the club can forgive this indiscretion (his first with us), he needs to develop some hunger for the ball and contest or he will never be any good again.

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.

  • AFLW REPORT: Western Bulldogs

We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
