WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BENNELL

Featured Replies

The Club has made a priority of improving the medical and conditioning departments. This play will be a great test if we've got it right or not. Hawks medicos have successfully delivered them Burgoyne, Scully, O'Meara, Patton and on their own have made themย a destination Club. Let's hope that's what's about to happen to us.ย

Big call Pro.... Kelly is a special player.

Bennell was once very, very good, but to rate him better than Kelly is a very bold call.

Still, you could be right

He just said on 7 news he hopes all goes well at the Deesย ย fingers crossedย

For me it's a no brainer.

He'll be relatively cheap and with lists of approx. 44 what's the downside if he doesn't pan out ?ย ย

His talent is undeniable.ย  37 disposals and 4 goals against us at the G was evidence of a very special player.ย  He's a better talent than Geelong's recently departed Tim Kelly.

If you can't take a risk when you haven't won a flag in over 50 years when can you ?

I'll live very comfortably if he came to the Dees and never played a game.

Btw, I can share that Goodwin and co. are very bullish about 2020.ย  They're aiming for top 4 and think they can win it -ย (courtesy of a lunch between Goodwin and well-heeled Demons supporters).ย ย ย

Naturally, the usual rebarbative posters will bloviate their inanities at such a suggestion.

Welcome back PD

We got the Elliot cash to throw around.ย

True but if his asking price of $700k+ is true he hasn't justified that in his performances to date. He and Bennell fully fit and firing would make a significant difference to our skill levels.ย

Well that might just rule out Sydney and Geelongย

Former Fremantle and Gold Coast enigma Harley Bennell is about to fly into Melbourne for a key meeting that could revive his AFL career. https://7news.link/56zYMf

His comment about his excitement to play on the โ€˜Gโ€™ is promising. Doubt he would say that if he were favouring Swans or Cats.

ย

Personally I'm happy if we pick him up. Many have pointed out that we have a bunch on list cloggers already who it seems their only attribute is durability. Bennell is a risk, both in his off-field history and injuries. But I feel like most recent premiers took a risk on somebody to help them get to the top.

He has attributes we sorely lack, and the risk is ultimately that we're giving up a slot on the list. If we bring him on board them I back the club in and I'll back Harley in.

If we pick up Bennell and Martin I will be comfortable to maybe, just maybe to contemplateย draftIngย 1 inside mid.

If we take a punt, he comes to us and it doesn't work out, I'd still be happy we took the punt.

Shows we are no longer going to sit back and take all the safe "good citizen" / "injury free" options.

Need some good news, fingers?ย we are able to get him in the red and the blue?

Hopefully hasnโ€™t looked at the fixture announcement today...

Maybe he'll wait until he sees the fixture to decide which club?

We do have 3 of his ex-teammates in May, Kolodjashnij and more recently, Langdon, while Nev Jetta has played with him in some of the representative matches. Presumably the club are doing their homework.

Perhaps they cut the tape short;

โ€Iโ€™m looking forward to playing on the G......kicking off at 4:30pm on a Sunday afternoonโ€

Lets take a risk. No draft assets required to recruit. Low $ contract. We need elite talent. If it does not work out the cost is minimal. If it does work out then we have an elite player who cost diddleysquat.

Ross Lyon really rates him despite his problems at Freo.ย  He is still close with Pert and I'm sure they've had some conversations.ย ย

ย

Yes from me. He is still quite young and has plenty left if he can leave his injuries behind. Is a match winner!ย
ย

If we can get Bennel, maybe Martin might change his mind and come to us. Eddie little Betts hasnโ€™t got long at the Blue Balls...

This just in at the trade desk, Iโ€™ve been told that weโ€™re a genuine 25% chance of snaring Bennell. More to come. #ETthetradebreaker. #Youhearditherefirst. #Ifyouโ€™resecondyoumightaswellbelast.ย

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demonsโ€™ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.
