Air Jurrah

Featured Replies

Apropos of not much of all, I saw a bloke in the supermarket this morning wearing an "Air Jurrah" t-shirt.

Doubt that there'd be a lot still in existence.  Anyone else still have theirs or any poster on here wearing one in Portland today?

I don't think Liam's talent was wasted. He could have been Bob Pratt, Peter Hudson, and Ablett senior rolled into one and still would have struggled to make it due to matters nothing to do with football thrust upon him. AFL football was not in his destiny, unfortunately.

Watts, Trengove, Hogan of late.

A large bunch of 1st rounders in the last 15 years, few successful

I still have mine. Wore it once. Good times.

Did you wear it to a game?

In the 90s, we had Jackovich, Charles and to a certain extent Lyon and Schwartz of whom we didn't get the best of due to injury.

Martin Pike was a fairly handy player that we discarded for cultural reasons.

He probably wasn't the most talented player to ever pull on the red and blue, but Clint Bartram was a good heart and soul player cut down by injury.  Troy Brodbridge is another in the sadest of circumstances.

Lyndon Dunn is one that whilst playing plenty of games I don't think we used to the fullest of his capabilities.

I also think Austin Wonemerri at his most brilliant was another player we never got the best out of for a sustained period.

It's all a bit depressing really.

I think the best 22 of MFC wasted talent would just about win premierships against the best 22 of other clubs.

Any chance we can get this freak of a player out of retirement? We could do with another option up forward.

He was the definition of natural talent.

This is simply a product of having a poor culture during the time the club was simply not focussed on winning, while at the same time drafting alot of early draft pick talent without the right sort of culture and development program around them. You could also say we didn't pay enough attention to character when drafting players but this could be a bit unfair on who we drafted

I don't have the Air Jurrah shirt, but I do have his signed St Pat's Day jersey, which I don't think he got the chance to wear.

To be not focused on Winning...

I always wonder how that can happen, we have been cheated so many Seasons as Supporters of this Club..

I've got the Air Jurrah shirt I think, left it at my parents' place 5 years ago. I've also got Jack Fitzpatrick's (unworn) Irish themed jersey, which I still wear to games to this day.

For those who don’t know or can’t remember I originally created the “Air Jurrah” image after his debut against Essendon.

I decided to then get the t-shirts made and 100% of profits went to the Mt Theo Program in Yuendumu. From memory we raised about $550.

A Demonland member got a tour of the club once and saw the Air Jurrah image in Brent Moloney’s locker:

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
