Welcome to Demonland: Trent Rivers

Yessssssss. My brothers mate! We are all pumped about this.

Not super quick but apparently runs all day and an elite kick.

Edit: apparently our media team think he's quick so maybe I'm wrong haha

Really happy with this pick.

Perfect replacement for Hibbo. Can swing through the midfield as well.

Had an outstanding junior career.

Outside skill and run, good pick.

From East Fremantle which is the same junior club as Luke Jackson!

Goodbye go home factor.

Surprised he's rated as an elite kick. Only went at 69% for the U/18 champs, but 80%+ by hand which pushed his DE% higher

It really depends on the type of kicks they are attempting.

You can chip 25m kicks to a free player and go at 100%, but never get the ball going anywhere.

He's very much a 40-55m kick type of player off half-back.

Welcome to MFC Trent Rivers, you will love it at the Dee's and sounds like you will fill an important role for us off half back and through the mid-field.............!!

Is that us done for the night?

You would think so. Two spots left for Bennell and/or Brown. Might upgrade a rookie or two?

Great get for us and will be nice to see a Rivers across halfback in red and blue again. He’s a good size to mop up in the back half and has a neat kick on him. Welcome to the club Trent!

A good solid selection - following the Gold Coast example we have two young recruits from the same club and both are All Australians.

Hope that is the only thing we do follow them on.

Knightmare:

Melbourne pick 32 = Trent Rivers. A surprise to see Rivers drop this far after talk he would go somewhere around 20. Displays class off half-back and can win it when pushed through the midfield. A good pick here. #AFLDraft

This was where the well known draft watchers had Rivers in their power rankings:

Draft Central: 13

Knightmare: 20

Cal Twomey: 23

Looks to be a good get at pick 32.

Can someone explain that Geelong-GC trade??!?!?!

Does GC have so many first rounders they literally don't give a [censored] what they do with them knowing the gifts will just keep on coming in?!

Pretty much. They also have a limited time frame, I’d say 3 years, to get it together.

If the big 6: Rankine, Luko, Ben King, Rowell, Anderson, Flanders - don’t get it together in the next 3 years the whole club will fold.

Sharp is a ready made wing/half back. Get him in now and they’ll have the best chance to be successful before these guys contracts run out in 3-4 years (they’ll all stay longer than 2)

Complete crap isn’t it

Cal Twomey

Speaking of whom, is he sporting a very bad wig or does he just have a very bad haircut?

Some nostalgic Demon names returning from the past in this draft. I like our recruiting this off season. Best  for a long time IMO

Rivers is best mates with Jackson. Should reduce any potential go-home factor.
