Canโ€™t get excited about this choice. Hopefully I am wrong and he becomes a long term star of the club.ย

U can bet Sumich will be pushing for him to go to the weagles especially if we are still crap like this season.ย

Why not try and bring Sumich in as forward coach?

The kid might be a player one day, but right now we are a team devoid of skill, we need classy ball users, I wish him well but I think we should of went the other way.

"have"ย  ย  (or should've)

Hope he doesn't decide to join Jesse in a couple of years.

If that were to eventuate, we'd probably get Young back the other way, after he's built a bit of a tank.

Unless we already realise that Preuss will be nothing more than handy depth.ย  This bloke has the capacity, with the right development, to be an absolute star.ย ย

Good thing we only gave preuss a 4 year deal then.?

Didnโ€™t think of that but I think deep down he is weagles through and through.ย

Not sure here nothing against the Lad hope is great but we have Preuss on a 4 year deal & need pace like Young & we pick another ruck?

Dam those highlights ??

I knew they'd throw some highlights in that I hadn't seen but these are really impressive. Pretty happy with this pick. Could be a generational player. Could easily go the other way. Like that we're being brave.

Is this an indication that he is now with the MFC in some capacity?

Hope so, he had the team polo on, even as a small part Iโ€™d love him back at the club.

Good luck to him and I hope he does really well for us.ย

I am only concerned if we donโ€™t perform he will off to the weagles as he said Peter Sumich is his mentor who he will remain in contact with and that his fav player is Nic Nat.ย

Geez for a bloke that hasnt grown up hard core footy. that highlight package shows he is in for a big career.

Funnily enough, Iโ€™m in Brissy for work and wandered past a very fancy dining establishment around lunch time and was surprised to see Suma part of a large partyย enjoying lunch.ย

I hope we give him a Queens Birthday debut because thatโ€™s like our grand finalย

His forward highlights were impressive.

Are you stuck back in 2008 ?

I suspect after we select Jackson we will release some new footage of him thatย will change a lot of peopleโ€™s opinion about us picking him.

I suspect this post I made earlier is ageing well ?

certainly looks much more impressive in the new highlights package and shows he could develop into a real talent up forward as well as in the ruck.

pretty excited about this pick ??

Star ruckman don't win premierships.ย  Ours stared this season, won the best and fairest and we still finished second bottom.ย  Square the ledger with ruck stocks....look to fill outside of that with the B+ types and your genuine guns that can turn and win the big matches.

Liken him to Austin Bradtke. Similar background. ย I donโ€™t expect him to play any senior games in 2020. ย Jackson is raw, with limited footy skills. He hunts and runs like a basketballer. ย We should support the pick and hope he develops BUT we will always have the annual media beat up about him going home to the Dockers or Eaglesย

Nothing has won us premierships for 50+ years.ย  Just ask SWYL.

Why can't we buck the trend?ย  I think the upside that Jackson has outweights what someone like Young or Serong bring to the table.ย  Maybe I'm right, maybe I'm wrong.ย  We'll just have to see.

I reckon he will play in 2020 , mostly up forward.

Never seen Jackson play and am certain Jason Taylor has weighed up all the negatives raised by supporters and yet he still picked him.

I'm happy to put faith in the Taylor's judgement.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
