I really like the Adam Goodes comparison that @DeeZee made today in this thread.  If we take Jackson we think Goodes is the type of player he might become.  Better role comparison than Grundy or Buddy.

I guess today will forthwith be known as Luke Jackson Day as it commemorates the moment everything changed and demonland was never the same. Fans split into different camps, bickering over the pick for the next decade

You don't get cute and try to fill holes or weaknesses.

If needs and best available coincide, great. That seemed to be the case for a while with young. And he might still prove to be the best of those available at 3. 

But it would appear the club has decided jackson is the best available. So should pick him.

In many circles Green is the best available Bin but there's a few in the mix.  We will beg to differ....again.

IF Jackson developed into a player of Buddy’s ability and excitement then we would be a big winner, and if in addition we could keep him  under wraps out of playing hours (and I certainly don’t mean putting him on ice) the sky is the limit.

Unfortunately to make it great tv you need 3 things:

1. Excellent HD highlights package

As for the Demons, yes, Thomson and Hogan are indeed two great examples of MFC ‘high-end talent’ wanting to leave the club and go home. And, for many Dees’ supporters, their cases alone provide enough of a cautionary tale - and they should.

Looking at the recruitment of our last 25 high draft picks (i.e. Round 1, priority and mini draft) over the past 20 years, Thomson and Hogan represent almost 30% (2 out of 7) of those taken from outside Victoria. All seven, and their outcomes, are listed below:

2000: S Thomson (SA) - went home, traded to Crows end of 2004

2002: D Bell (SA) - delisted end of 2010

2002: N Smith (SA) - delisted end of 2006

2007: C Morton (WA) - went home, traded to Eagles end of 2012

2009: J Trengove (SA) - delisted end of 2017 (picked up by Power as DFA)

2012: J Toumpas (SA) - went home, traded to Power end of 2015

2012: J Hogan (WA) - went home, traded to Dockers end of 2018

On the face of it, then, 5 of our 7 high draft picks from interstate since 2000 have ended up playing with a club in their home state. 

Now, I won’t claim that Morton, Trengove and Toumpas are the greatest examples of the go-home factor at work, but the other two, yes. And those two (Thomson and Hogan) just happen to be the best of the lot.

MFC no doubt know all this (and more) and - it appears - are willing to take the risk with Jacko.

So GWS use rubbish picks this year, go into deficit and get the extra first round player next year.  GWS may go into deficit but I read somewhere that swapped/traded in picks aren't used to make up a deficit; only natural picks.

So GWS won't be using #4 on Green no matter what we do.  The risk for us is we miss out on the player we really want.

The only difference if we bid is that Ash (or whoever) stays in the pool.

BTW, Sydney yesterday said they won't bid on Green at 5 and some phantom draft watchers see him sliding to our pick 10. 

I reckon most clubs have moved on from 'forcing' GWS to pay a 'fair' price because they have - GWS gave up 3 first round picks to get 4: 12 and 18 to saints for 6 then it and their 2020 first round pick to the Crows for 4. 

Other than who we take, where Green is called is one of the more interesting things in the draft.

Regradless of how they dice it they will still be losing a super valuable pick 4 and don't get to take another shot at the top 10 with it LH.

The ONLY difference!??  LH if we land Green or Jackson and then, by bidding on Green along the way, it assists us landing Ash/Weightman (or other preferred contender) from the first 10 or so (instead of them slipping to another club as a result of a GWS no.4 pick) i for one would consider that a very nice coup indeed.

Yes we win the trade in terms of points equivalent to pick 50 however they get the keep their man in WA & build a replacement for Sandliands. 

We could then pick up three of.... Serong, Young, Kemp, Pickett, Ash, Flanders, Weightmen or Stephens.
