Young's highlights video has made me want him more than any other player that will be available. I'd then have Kemp first choice for pick 8 and Weightman second if Kemp is gone by then.

But it's a Young & Kemp combo for me.

Voted for Serong and Weightman. We need goal kickers ASAP.

I voted Young and Weightman. Young seems to be the safest option to succeed at the level going off reports and clips. Would be happy to then take a bit of a punt with 8 on someone with a bit of X factor who can hit the scoreboard. Voted Weightman but would be happy with Stephens or kemp either.

Just watched the replay of Vic Country vs WA and I don't even know anymore. Was thinking Young before watching the game but have gone a bit cold on him.

Robertson impressed me the most, loved his body positioning and attack on the ball. However, he had a few shocking kicks and he is probably the type we don't need now but would be interested depending on who we take at 3 and who remains. 

Young was hit and miss with his kicking and got too many handballs out the back. He didn't really provide any genuine run, just cruised along with the ball.

Serong wasn't involved all that much, hard to form a solid opinion on that game.

Flanders reminds me a lot of Petracca with his body movement and kicking. He was quite good but his kicking is loopy.

Kemp, probably the pick of the bunch. Spent a lot of time forward and helped bring Vic Country back into the game in the 3rd. 

Weightman couldn't get near it in the first half. Was very impressive in the 3rd with 3 great tackles inside 50 (2 of them should have been holding the ball and went unrewarded) and a nice snap goal. Also showed great courage to go back with the ball (you can see it on the hightlight video for Flanders) and was perhaps unlucky not to get a front on contact free kick here. So he could have easily had 4 goals in this quarter. 

Ash just reminds me of Atley, solid game but didn't really take my interest.

 

My ideal result would be Kemp and one of Young or Serong. Kemp could be a superstar while the other two both fill genuine needs.

Green and Kemp with Steven being unlucky. Ruled him out for being a SA boy.  Weightman as a top ten pick, no.

Big Max might not be at his best in two  season's time nor some of the core.  The present group might look completely different again if we don't have two very solid years from here and at least one serious finals campaign.

Chosen Young, whose kicking and ground ball work is sublime.  His follow up work and second efforts are also commendable. Kicks either side as well which makes him that much harder to match up on counter.

Only downside is a turn of pace which might see him a little less effective and under a higher degree of pressure at senior level.   Missing more kicks and handballs.   Seems to have great awareness and knows when to shoot the lights out with a kick (short, medium and raking) or a handball forward to a free running player .  Lovely to watch and might end up one of the better AFL kicks in that regard (subject to the lack of speed / step up effect mentioned above).

Would hate to miss Young.  If for some moment of insanity we did, the next best down the rung for mine (potentially depending on height) is Stephens for outside blitz run and finish.  Looks a little raw though and im not sure he is the 183cm player i saw listed somewhere.  The official stats have him much smaller at 172ish.

Weightman as the second pick for the small forward.  Has more X factor, smarts than the more bullocking small in Serong (who reminds me a little of Luke Beveridge!).  While Serong looks like a gruntier bull around the ball, Weightman can also play a little tall at times up forward as well as clever work on the outside of stoppages.  Goal kicking seems ok even from reasonable distance.  Dennis Lillee run up Ben Brown style!  Not necessarily a game changing player but very very clever and handy.  Knowing when to knock the ball on (a la the Tiger's method) instead of taking possession all the time like so many of our boys do at present.  Sometimes you can't teach that so this and ability to play tall up forward is a slight advantage over say a Serong imv.

We won't land a 1st string KF this year to take over the No.1 mantle from T-Mac but hopefully we recruit well to fill most of what else is required prior to doing so.

To not land even a 2nd string KF with the likes of Jenkins was the club's biggest fail in the trade period imv, although we don't know whether Mahoney/Taylor even tried or not as there's been no comms from the club either way vs say Elliot, where we had reasonable info forthcoming.  This should be one of the key questions asked at the forum imv ie; did we make a serious attempt at landing Jenkins for peanuts?  If not, why not?

Jenkins did not come cheap at all pick 37 is not that cheap  only way to pick up Jenkins was to not do the pick swap with north so there would not be a pick 8 for us.

Voted Young with 3 and Kemp with 8. Wouldn’t be disappointed with Ash at 8 though.

I went Young plus Stephens (With Robertson and Kemp if Stephens is gone).  I like Dylan Stephens - genuine pace plus better 2km time trial than anyone on the MFC list and elite skills (went 80% disposal efficient in SANFL seniors). Seems less of a risk than picks like Serong and Ash.  

It Just seems WA and SA players are flying under the radar.  Vic Metro and Vic Country didn’t win the U18 championships, yet dominate the top 10 draft prospects.  That is not reality, and after Rowell and Anderson the next 10 picks should have 6-7 out of the non vic teams. Robertson is better than 10-20. 

This thread takes me back to the optimism of draft time 2013

Yesterday I had breakfast with a mate that has been part of an AFL club’s recruitment team for 10 years and due to him passing me info prior to the actual Draft, I would rather keep the Club confidential, however, let me assure you that this is one hell of a successful club. 

My mate’s role is purely Victorian based and focuses totally on the TAC, no other league. 

The bottom line is that he told me this Club had a major meeting last Saturday whereby all the TAC watchers met for a full day and compiled a mock Draft of Victorian TAC players. 

Whilst having to be a little guarded at this time of year, my mate told me that at Saturday’s meeting, Hayden Young was the almost totally unanimous choice as number 3 from the TAC. In fact, my mate scoffed at the thought of overlooking Young at 3 even after the interstate kids were factored in  

He was very strong in his praise of Kemp but didn’t want to elaborate too much about other players in the 5 to 10 range as this is where his Club would be selecting.

He did however say that neither he or any of his other TAC watchers had Weightman in the first 12 and said he’d be highly surprised if any Club took him in the Top 10 after the interstaters were added in.

Reminds me of what I heard from recruiters about Scully. Nothing in life is a given and following the herd rarely works out long term. Green with first pick.

Ok, but what’s the point in nominating a Player that is 100% going to be recruited by GWS to whom he is “allocated”.

A touch of the oxymorons here but i like the cut of his jib. If indeed he is the best player at 3 then it is serendipitous as above all we need an elite kick and Young appears to be one and it removes all discussion about best pick of over filling needs. Love that he is a lefty too as i'm positive they have a slight advantage with opposition instinctively looking to cover the right side.

Did your mate indicate if he could move play as a mid? And any discussion about his ability to play AFL next season?

To force them to use their first pick on him. If he's not nominated before their first pick then they grab another talented kid and then pay for him later in the draft.

I think Weightman will make the grade and be a solid to good player, but pretty sure I would cringe if we take him and Kemp's still sitting there.

I listened to an Interview with Young, he stated that they (team he plays in) have given him time in the midfield but that he sees his best footy at halfback and believes that’s where he is suited to and where he sees himself playing at AFL level.

That’s not to say that the club doesn’t believe that he might push into the midfield, or that he might decide that he’d like to get into the midfield after a preseason or two.

If Young comes in and with a fit/in form Hannan/Gus i am struggling to see where Salem fits in tbh.

He's a great accumulator don't get me wrong and a solid player....just not that damaging with run or penetrating kicks to damaging places.

Very classy in close and dishing off to players in immediate vicinity but that mostly delays the ball from transitioning quickly inside 50.
