Taylor and Co must have some major intel on a player or players to be making a play like this.

Kangas must have a Father son in the pipeline, or a player in their academy.

Or they think we will finish bottom 4 next year

No reason we would do this unless we had someone in mind for pick 8, or we are about to split pick 3.... this week just got interesting again.

God I hope we get Papley with pick 8.

Wouldn't that be something?

This literally looks like the worst trade of picks I have ever seen. We gain pick 8 and hope we beat pick 8 next year by jumping up 7 places (i.e become 10th) just to draw even, THEN throw in a second rounder ? then a third rounder?

Absolutely ridiculous trading. please tell me this is not true,  3 picks for 1. There has to be a v good 2nd rounder pick coming back

Goodwin needs us to go all in this year. First rounders next year won’t save his job.

Willing to sell the farm to get in talent.

With all your nous, you do understand that it is not  only Goodwin making the call on this one.

I am curious why you always bring it back to Goodwin saving his job, vs Goodwin looking at the bigger picture and being club first, which if pays off, also saves his job?

Keep both for the Draft.  SERONG @ 3  & STEPHENS @ 8 unless a gun player is up like Papley with 8

50 is worthless after that it depends on how we use it to assess value.

You will, of course, be aware that with all the academy/fs draftees next year our first 'live' pick would likely be pushed back 6-8 places? So 8 becomes 16 in that case.

Even with pick 26 this year, that swap is genius. This year's draft apparently levels out after about 10 or 12.

its good we keep pick 3 and have 2 picks in top 10.. not sold o giving up 26.

I love this!! Finally some creativity from the FD.

My initial thought is that either 3 or 8 will be split again, with the Club looking to cash in with 3-4 early selections this year and ignoring next year.

If it's with a player in mind, I'm a bit confused as to where that leaves our draft picks. One of these going out would leave us with one early pick and potentially nothing for a long, long time (this draft and next).

For the first time this offseason, I'm perfectly happy to take those straight to the draft too.

No this is the MFC finally being ballesy like many have been asking and backing itself in for 2020.  Better than sitting back and waiting in hope.

Stephens will be gone before 8. Freo just lost a pair of wingers and have pick 7

If we have another ? year it will be a bad trade, if we make the 8 and recruit well then we've trumped it.

It seems to me that this is way to squeeze GWS into agreeing to a favorable trade back to us of two draft picks and possibly  a player for #3.

Pick 3 and 8 for 6 and Jeremy Cameron?

I jest of course. But imagine...

I think we've overpaid big time. Looking at the draft value index this trade only evens out if our first round pick is pick #34 next year, which is obviously impossible. Now the draft value index doesn't tell you anything about the individuals available or the overall draft quality, but it just feels like a desperation move. Take out the pick 50 and I'd feel like the trade is fairer.

Likely to bring in one with Aish

..or 4 first rounders? More likely something big is cooking.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
