Buckenara: Dees List Overrated

I posted on one of the FB pages re this, and while I agree with his summary based on last season, he said similar things regarding the Richmond season in 2016 and also said they can't win a premiership with that list.

I'm fairly sure this time last year Buckenara was praising our list.... it's very easy to just write things based on one season.

Agree completely these "experts" base their credibility on hindsight rather than actually being able to predict the future.

Agree binman however what we might have expected from Lever and May has not happened.

Both IMO are injury prone, if we get 18 - 20 games out of both of them in 2020 I will be astounded.   So far both are overpaid average contributors.

I'm not sure about May being injury prone. Ha no issues until coming to the dees and perhpas struggling with the increased running load. Hopefully yhat's not an issue next year.

And granted Lever has had 2 ACLs (one as a junior) but i'm not convinced he is injury prone as such.

I guess 2020 will prove one of us right binman.

I am very happy for you to remind me of my error in September next year.

Clearly guessing on many of those.

Harmes & Melksham definitely Bs.

Jones no longer a B-.

KK shown nothing.

C+ very harsh on Lever.

Jack Viney B- at most.

Oliver B+ for mine (not quite A)

No, there are no Bs apparently. There are some B+ and B- players, but Gary has decreed there to be no B players. Don’t question his system.

Josh Wagner = C PLUS

James Harmes = C

Yep, he knows our players intimately.

Missed Jwag.  Almost as bad as the KK assessment.

His general commentary in terms of the MFC needs to stop being satisfied with a good year here and there is spot on though.  Been doing that for decades and often within season also.

I'd like to see where everyone rates that list compared to Bucky.

For me;

T-Mac & Viney down to B-

KK down to C

May up to B

Tracc up to B-

Rest I am relatively comfortable with.

I'd allocate OMac an immediate F or worse...

That's his major blunder along with KK .  Harmes is at least a C+ / B-

KK hasn't fired a shot ....yet.  Not sure how he has even assessed him.  May also.  Off 8 games or so?  Obviously a bit of dart throwing journalistic license in some of those.

Got a feeling that Harmes is going to be in for a thriller year - a game-changer, and loose cannon, friggin' good footballer and his class will rise.

Here’s the breakdown:

A: Max Gawn, Clayton Oliver

B+: Jack Viney, Tom McDonald

B: Nil

B-: Nathan Jones, Christian Salem, Angus Brayshaw, Michael Hibberd, Kade Kolodjashnij, Jake Melksham, Bayley Fritsch, Steven May

C+: Christian Petracca, Jake Lever, Sam Frost, Aaron Vandenberg, Jayden Hunt, Alex Neale-Bullen, Marty Hore, Josh Wagner, Neville Jetta

C : James Harmes, Billy Stretch, Mitch Hannan, Oscar McDonald, Joel Smith, Corey Wagner

C-: Jay Kennedy-Harris, Braydon Preuss

Developing*: Sam Weideman

Developing: Charlie Spargo, Oskar Baker, Harrison Petty, James Jordan, Tom Sparrow, Toby Bedford, Aaron Nietschke, Austin Bradtke, Kade Chandler

For a team that has had so many top draft picks, for the players not to have elevated themselves and/or received the right development to become very good AFL players or stars of the competition by now is alarming.

James Harmes a C, proves he doesnt watch any of our games.

His not far off the mark to be honest. Viney a little high & Harmes a bit low but not much more is too far wrong.

I've got concerns on our list, which is why I don't believe we'll shoot back up the ladder next year.

Our midfield in reality is average: Oliver & Gawn are elite, jurys still out on Brayshaw, Viney is a plodder, Harmes is at his ceiling, then who ? Langdon & Tomlinson additions don't  overly excite me.

Backline: Probably our strength if Lever & May can stay fit. If Jetta & Hibberd can stay fit but another year older, Hore looks a player.

Forward line: Jury out on TMac, Weid ? Who knows how he will come on. Melksham is a gun IMO. No small forward. Hannan can add a dimension if he stays fit..

I hope I am wrong but I tend to agree with Buckenara & dont hold high hopes for 2020

Harmes a C grader is BS. More like B to B+. Improved Consistency and he could be an A grader

Please ! spare me Bucks. You are delusional.

Harmes a  C ?   No comment.      For OMAC and J Smith it would be flattering.

Delusional on all scales.  Make your judgement on the Hawks.

Did he really spell Neal-Bullen wrong? That’s the level of intellect we are dealing with here. Move on

So he is total incorrect because he spelt someones name wrong!

If you don't agree with his summation fine but get us reasons not that clap trap.

Up against the rest of the league, I'm not so sure?

As I suggested earlier, the West Coast mids next year of Shuey, Nic Nat, Yeo & Tim Kelly are so far ahead of us it hurts to think about. That's just the most obvious example

"For a team that has had so many top draft picks......"

"The Demons haven’t had a first-round draft pick since 2015 when it picked Oliver at No.4 and Weideman at No.9...."

Speaking of inconsistency..

His 2018 form suggests he would stand up easily. Was rarely beaten and was an offensive weapon.

We always overate our list generally- particularly when it comes to A/B graders - but the fact he has him bracketed with Stretch and Wagner shows that he has no clue about our list really.

Sam Weideman is a Developing* player at 31 games

Joel Smith has played 11 and is C Grade....after being injured all year. No logic there.

And I agree with all on the Harmes' assessment (per my avatar). Makes the overall assessment less credible.

When season 2020 starts, everyone's 2018 form will be from 18 months ago. That's a long period of time.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
