it is not necessarily illogical for those clubs to be facing a closed window and us not to be despite the relative performances this year.  How about we stop beating ourselves around the head until we see a few rounds in 2020.

All we do with open windows  is fall through the bloody things.

Always happy to be proven wrong, however the attitude around the joint seems to have taken an enormous backwards step from what was built in 2018 and seems to be what continually holds us back from any sort of success. Last year the players were playing for one another, the coach, the fans - you felt there was that genuine connection. 

I don’t think that means we take a win at all costs attitude, but a collective mindset similar to what the Eagles, Tigers and Pies have adopted in the last few years built on having an enormous amount of respect and care for one another from all aspects of the club. Whether that be coaches, staff, players, medicos, ceo etc. everyone needs to be involved. 

I’m optimistic that this years disaster will galvanise the group and make them realise success and respect isnt given but earnt.

Someone has got to take charge and lead this club properly, and apart from nailing some personnel changes in the off-season, making Max Gawn captain is crucial imo to taking the club back to a position where the premiership window may be open.

Unless we can get some quality disposal in the place it's closed.

I am going to be in the minority here and say we made some massive mistakes in our 2019 pre season, injuries hurt us badly, and as a result the tougher fixture became even tougher. 

if we can correct those mistakes, get a finals game plan up and running again, keep our good players on the park for full pre season, with the benefit of a good fixture i think we can play finals in 2020.

We didnt even have one in 2018 when we made the prelim final, we just caught teams off guard with our 'chaos ball'.

Agree with all of that, except I'd add that system is the most important thing to get right over the off season, so it becomes like second nature in 2020.

Because historically a team might win a few more games, but that doesn't mean a team winning less games won't catapult above them the following year. Look at Melbourne and Geelong between 2004-2007. Or Brisbane last year and this year. 15th to 2nd.

I watched the weekends games, the teams involved had a number of players who turned the result.

we have no one who could turn the result of a high pressure final. 

The two teams on Saturday have multiple key forwards who are can kick 4-5 goals we have one average KPF. 

Lots of work needed to be a credible finalist let alone win a GF.

Short memory for mine... we were excellent in the last month of 2018, before running out of steam in Perth, watch the replay of any of those games and tell me this team can't make a big impact in September 2020.

We had the worst preseason ever last year, for a young team, if we get through with minimal injuries to key players then lookout.

Open but only in an even season. More likely we'll get good just in time for a Hawthorn '88 or Essendon '00.

Definitely open.. but [censored] hell watching pre game grand final shows on TV make me extremely jealous..

When added together, 2020 is the year when both streams come together. Think Oliver, Brayshaw, Petracca, Salem, Viney, TMac, Frost, Weideman, Max, Harmes, Hunt, Melksham, Hibbert and others.

Remember that Hogan missed playing in the great games at the end of 2018 and AVB finally played. There is genuine cause for hope if we have a full pre season.

Totally agree.

The potential must be released through improved coaching patterns,( chaos and tempo combined,) attitude,  (second efforts) ,techniques (shepherding and  support running and skill (kicking esp for goal)

All coachable for a group at their optimum age and experience point.
