Big yes from me, as he is another good outside runner

he's only 22 and if we can get him for not much then it's worth a shot. If he's prepared to work hard with personal trainer ect to get back then you would expect that he might have matured a bit with off field behaviour as well.

We cannot have anorher rubbish kick in our side.

We have only traded or drafted two above average kicks in the Roos/Goodwin era - Salem and fritter. And offset that by trading out our only elite kick in watts.

Two out of what 35-40 new players?

Given Tomlinson and Langdon are at best average kicks we simply have to prioritise kicking skills in every other trade or draft.

I think Tomlinson's kicking is above average but I really fear for Langdon's disposal. Has a similar kicking style to Hunt/Frost. Hopefully it's not too late for him to change/improve it.

This from the AFL site,

"It remains to be seen whether the opposition interest in the defender will result in Collingwood looking to broker a trade, or if Murray could find a third club as a delisted free agent."

How do the Pies broker a trade if he has already been delisted?

I say yes only because he is quick and we lack pace especially with Frost gone. His kicking is woeful but that can be worked on especially considering we get him for nothing.

I read a couple of articles that stated he’d been told he won’t receive a new contract however no mention of him being officially delisted.

His kicking certainly isn't using a great technique but I'm not sure he's even played enough AFL to really know what it's like. At the Pies he was clearly bought in to run and carry and that's what he did with great success, then teams caught on and he ran himself in to trouble. Then he was banned before he got to make that next adjustment/development.

Are we sure he will even be set for a half back role? Could play midfield or half forward.

Just for the pace alone I'd take a chance on him as depth...unfortunately we've gone and signed up all our depth players already!

I'd say he's an upgrade on what we have in terms of depth, even though he might not be a great bloke.

I don't think he is officially off their list until the end of October, when players' contracts terminate.

That is interesting, as he is listed as a delisted player on the AFL site under Collingwood. That means that players are not wanted but if someone shows interest, the club can ask for something.

If no one shows interest he can be taken for nothing. If I wanted a player in that category, I would tell them to say they are probably retiring and then get them for nothing.

It won’t matter, even if there were a trade it would be a token one. At most late pick or pick swap, he is effectively a delisted drug cheat. Although how residual Cocaine from the night before can be considered performance enhancing is an interesting one.

As a side note, just because he has had some problems doesn’t mean he is irredeemable. He has an exciting turn of speed but looks far too one dimensional and predictable. We saw Hunt going this way as well. He needs more strings in his bow. I personally find it hard to tell what his kicking is like, he puts himself under so much pressure by always trying to run the ball through congestion that even the best kicker is going to end up with a messy disposal. For the right price I think he would be an interesting experiment.

Tomlinson is a decent kick

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

A couple of Demonland Trackwatchers headed down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you their observations from today's training session before the Demons head off to Perth for their final Practice Match. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Beautiful morning, not much wind, more than a couple of dozen spectators.  The players were up and about, boisterous and having fun. THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
