Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Well, we wanted to see some change.  The club is certainly meeting us halfway.

I'm happy with all these changes IF we are smart enough to hire the right replacements.  With his experience in the industry, I think Richo is a step in the right direction.  I'm very keen to see where we go from here.

If true, it is a very good move by the club.

Have often said on here that he is part of the problem for a variety of reasons:

  • Has been here since the Bailey days, for 186, for the supposed 'tanking', for the Neeld era.
  • Not holding him responsible for all that but he is an entrenched part of that culture covering one of the worst decades in our history.
  • imv he has a conflict of interest with his son playing at the Club.

The club is now free to make list management, captaincy and match selection decisions about son Jack, if it ever felt it appropriate.

While I don't necessarily agree with the last dot point, I agree thoroughly that it was time for him and others to move on.  Rawlings has been here long term, and McCartney had been with us for 5 years as well.

I think the club as a whole needs some fresh faces and I'm all for the changes that are happening.  We need to make the right choice with replacements, but I think this is a terrific start.

You deleted from my post the last line which explained the point you disagree with - that Todd has a conflict of interest with Jack at the club...weird to delete it...

Sorry, I don't know why that happened.  I didn't actually mean to do that.

My point is that I don't think Jack has been given special treatement, and nor do I believe we make decisions based on the fact Todd is at the club.  There has been no proof of there being a conflict of interest.  When Jack was made a co-captain, I believe most at the time would have been very happy with that decision.  He hasn't set the world on fire during his time in the role, but there have been little else to choose from previously.

The holy trinity being split up. If this was part of Mahoney's review then it's a great sign IMO.

1)Don't think so.

2) Various other options for captaincy.  The most obvious being to leave Jones as sole captain.  And Max says 'hello'.

Back to conflict of interest:  As List Manager Todd would be in control of any trade options.  He sits on the weekly match selection committee.  And involved in captaincy decisions.

Therefore, he has significant and direct management over his son's career.  imv that is a significant conflict of interest and his influence would restrict the club's options on Jack's career, if such circumstances arose.

Todd going (if true) confirms to me that Pert is calling the shots; Mahoney is the conduit and public mouthpiece.

No sacred cows, anymore.

That's a good point. Pert has apparently stepped up very much since late in the season. I still think it's a good sign IF Mahoney has been part of it, as to me it would say he's got his priorities right and I would have a lot more trust in his review.

Thanks for your service Todd. You have been part of taking us from a basket case to a club capable of on-field success

Loves the club, his house is often littered with young demons looking for a feed

I agree it is good timing to part

There has been no indication that it ever was a conflict of interest.  You would like to think that Todd is professional enough to not allow that to happen.  I'd wager that, if it did, then Peter Jackson would have stepped in to remove him from the role a long time ago.

Either way, we will agree to disagree on that point.  One thing we do agree on is that it's a positive move for the club.  Todd has been there long enough.  Time for some fresh faces.

Yet where he could have used his conflict of interest, re Ollie Wines, his son's mate, we didn't and totally wasted pick 4. A disaster that still costs us.

I didn't say that.  I said we had options and Jones could have been sole cap in 2017 when Jack became co-cap.

That would give others time to develop and to find a successor to Jones.  Max was a candidate in 2017 and definitely in 2018 or 2019.  So no, I'm not saying Jones should be sole cap this year.

I wonder how players and their managers see the changes and whether it puts them off or encourages them to stay/join us.

I'd be interested in that, too.  I think with Goodwin, Mahoney and Pert still there, that is a good nucleus to present to players.  They could also put forward that, as a club, 2019 was totally unacceptable and we knew that changes needed to be made.  We need changes both on and off the field, and we are doing that.

Then again, I could be talking out of my back pocket as I have no real idea what goes on behind closed doors.  I know McCartney was offered a deal to stay but wanted to move on to new things, but the others might have been a mutual thing to help refresh the club as a whole.

If true this saddens me. If only because he has been a positive force and now he will get potted unmercifully on DL as are most who dont go out in a box.

righto

Viney won the BnF in 2016 and deserving of co-captaincy in 2017 imo.  unfortunately he's had couple of years of injuries and no preseason.  he put a full year together finally this year (although didnt play great footy) and with a preseason we will see our inspirational leader back next year.

Max would not be the player he is today if he was weighed down by captaincy in 2017/2018 imo

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
